Last year when the move of the sports broadcasts went from WJEQ to WIUS just days before the first football game, the Athletic Dept told the public that the Univeristy would be working on increasing WIUS' coverage area by raising the tower and increasing the signal strength.

Was any of that done ????

I have heard no mention of any improvements being made to the WIUS coverage area.

Will we once again be stuck with a weak signal that struggles to reach Good Hope on a good day ????

How can this Unversity hope to have any credibility when it has its sports broadcast on the 120-watt campus station ???

In sharp contrast, Macomb High School sports are broadcast on WKAI-FM (K-100) which operates on 25,000 watts.

Let's Go WESTERN!!

Wow!!! You mean to tell me that WKAI is broadcasting football, girls volleyball, boys basketball, girls basketball, softball, and baseball this year! That is an outstanding commitment to a high school sports program. Up in the burbs we don't come even close to that!

I can't say for sure how deep their broadcasts go, but for sure Macomb HS football and boys basketball.

But it's really not surprising they do high school and not college. Look at the attendance at the high school games. The "townies" pack the stadium and the court. Granted, neither are anywhere near as large as Western's facilities, but they are packed. And so is Western's basketball court with for the high school Christmas tourney and anytime Macomb or a fairly local team reaches the playoffs.

The is far more support in Macomb for high school sports than their is for local college sports.

To be honest with you, if the only sports that WIU had to have on the radio were football and men's basketball I think they would still be on WJEQ or WKAI!
