What's the word (if any) about our radio coverage for the 2010-11 school year ???

We had heard last year that WIUS-FM was looking into raising its broadcasting power and installing a new transmitter. Both of those would expand the current limited coverage area.

Was any of that completed ??????

WIUS only broadcasts with 120 watts which is very low power.

The irony here is that the Macomb High games are broadcast on WKAI-FM (K-100). I have picked up K100 60 miles away from Macomb. In contrast, WIUS struggles to reach Good Hope on a good day.

For WESTERN to have any credibility, the university will have to remedy its radio coverage of athletic events.

Let's Go WESTERN!!

The funny thing is 712, I listened to more WIU athletics up in the suburbs this last school year than I ever have with the current radio situation. Probably the best broadcasts were the baseball which had the new SID as the announcer. He was very good, polished, and obviously had experience. Of course, the student commentators got better as the each season rolled on, but I still missed the "golden" pipes of Michael Jones. The current radio situation did enhance those students involved in the broadcasts educational experience by a long shot. I just wish they had more advertisers, that pig commercial and the prepare for a disaster blurb sure got old. Its too bad that the radio stations in Macomb were bought out by a company not really affiliated with the community or the university.

Why don't you email the AD and ask about the radio situation! If you don't want to, I will be more than happy to ask the question!

If you are accessable to your computer, the live internet radio stream should let you hear it.

Yes, you can listen via the computer.

But that does not work well when you are driving in your car.

Let's Go WESTERN!!

agree with 712, I used to listen to the games on the computer and I could go to the store or get more beer and tune them in on the radio here in Peoria.
