SIU will have brand new digs for their upcoming 2010 season...... It sure looks like they are really doing it up the right way.
The landscape for D-1 football could change drastically in the next few years, with what appears to be the impending demise of the Big XII....Looks like that SIU stadium is being built with the possibility to expand to 30-40K.
Check it out:

Saw it the other day on line! Really a nice facility. Cost of the thing is a joint effort with the City of Carbondale. It also includes the renovation of the arena. I wonder if Macomb could come up with some coin to help our WIU instead of WIU always helping out Macomb!

Something like "Saluki Way" at WESTERN would require exceptional leadership.
The current A.D. Tim Van Alstine has consistently shown that he is NOT the person who can take us to that next level.
Instead, we will be left with a half-finished football stadium and a basketball facility that has to the worst arena in the Summit League.
Perhaps the newly arriving President in 2011 can bring about the necessary changes to WESTERN Athletics.
Let's Go WESTERN!!

How about the city of Macomb getting with it and allowing WIU to finish Vivian Way the way it ought to be finished instead of a street that divides the old campus from the new campus. Does the city really want to attract more students to Macomb, or just get the benefits without joining in a cooperative effort?

Watched both videos from the link. Wow, what can I say - awesome is an understatement.
And I agree, we simply don't have that kind of vision anywhere in the administration at WIU or in the City.
I'd like to think we have a chance of getting some with the new Pres, but they wrote the job description for a same-o, same-o instead of opening up and potentially attracting a true CEO type who could really move us forward.

I took a look at the new website. Its is really pretty good and gives access to information you had to dig for in the past. Its pretty classy. I know I have been accused of wearing rose colored glasses, but I just can't believe that more students are not interested in coming to Macomb. You do not win the "Princeton" award without having something going on! And there are some outstanding programs. I think the University and the community have got to actively work together to recruit kids to Macomb.

The next President has to be a proven leader with a clear vision of the future.
We need to leave behind the failed leadership of Tim Van Alstine and Gary Johnson.
Let's Go WESTERN!!

| SIU is wise and will reap the benefits of its commitment to athletic facilities. Western should try to keep some form of building or renovation in progress each year even if it is not major. It's all about momentum.
