Nice Niche bud. writing in all caps means you are rude or lazy.

Thanks for informing all of us on the board that you are better than us. I wonder how you did all your research to find out that probably nobody on this board has played in any organized sports?

Fan boards are for people to express opinions, sorry that not everyone's opinion here matches yours.

WELL ALL CAPS

No one said it was football and I've got news for you, not talking about other coaches is not rule number one in coaching.

Your last couple of posts made it clear that football is the only thing that exists, and you plead for SOMEONE to talk about football. Gee, why not step up to the plate (oops, sorry, that's baseball/softball) and start talking instead of just trying to trash the folks who were here before you.

This thread has passed the point of ridiculous.

I have never played college sports, nor have I ever played professional sports. I have never been a coach. The highest level of football I have ever played is flag football in the Macomb YMCA league when I was 10. I am just a WIU alum who likes watching WIU football, and wants it to succeed. Sure, I don't understand all the ins and outs of being a college coach. I don't know how hard, stressful and consuming it is. But I, like the 99% of other fans out there who don't know everything about football, do understand that they like watching their team win, and when they take time and money out of their day to go cheer for their team, they want to see their team be competitive. Similarly, I don't have to be a board certified physician to understand that if 50% of a doctors patients die before they turn 45, they aren't a good doctor.

Luckily, we do have a reliable metric to determine if a team is good or not. Wins. Regardless of how hard it is to coach a football team (or any team), and I'm sure its very hard, it still only boils down to one thing, can you recruit a good team and win. Thats what the fans want. Thats what ensures people have a good time when they go to the game. Thats what keeps the money rolling in. If a nice guy like Coach P could have gotten us wins, that would have been great. But I'd rather have a guy with a mean streak that goes 12-0. Personality is really inmaterial, as long as the Coach wins football games I could care less what kind of person he/she is.

If you are a coach that isn't winning games, then I think its fair to say that you aren't doing a good enough job. Is that harsh? Sure is. But that is just the reality of the sports business.

I think that everyone agrees that provided what Coach P says is true, he was treated very unfairly and illegaly, and those responsible should be punished in accord with the law. But, I think some of us need to separate the resignation fiasco from the performance on the field. And, the performance on the field wasn't good. I think it was fair game to ask for his resignation, because the job just wasn't getting done. The execution of asking for his resignation was worse than terrible, but it still was fair game.

In the aftermath, I'm confused as to why Coach P needed to go the media. He could have just as quietly as possible taken WIU to court to have his case heard. Going to the media really only made him seem vindictive and childish, as though he wanted to get revenge and embarass the university. While I'm sure he is angry, and deservedly so, it wasn't going to do him any good, and only stood hurt the public image of the university. It was kind of a loose-loose situation, and unecessary.

Finally, this is a message board. We just come here and talk about stuff. If everyone just logs on here and tries to break everyone elses balls, it stops being fun. Sure, people disagree about stuff, but thats life. Thats why we have message boards to discuss things.

Great post St. Louis Necks.

And you're right. This board is the place for any and all Necks fans to provide their 2 cents worth. In fact, on the women's side, we've even had appreciated input from South Dakota fans.

St. Louis Neck, could not agree with you more. 101, I agree with you also, seems like someone has a superiority complex here. You know, I did play high school football and basketball, and I did coach high school basketball for 23 years of my life, I also coached travel softball for 4 years, but lets not go there. Your right, when given the chance to question my daughters softball coach I did not even though she was standing in our kitchen and I had had a few too many Chardonnays! But this is a message board! And it is suppose to be fun! Isn't it. Yes I have grown tired of the "sky is falling" attitude of some of the posters, and I am really sick of the conspiracy theories that are thrown out regarding Coach P. Don't you wonder, 1 shooter or two, and was it from the grassy knoll next to the score board, or from Sherman Hall??? Does it matter??? I have found that the simplest explanation is usually very close to the truth. If you are going to tell me that I cannot second guess, I say, bull shit, that is what it is all about. I watched DT's offense and wondered, "what is going on?" I saw a pass just before half time against North Dakota State, a half back pass, and thought, "what the heck was that?" Don't I have the right to say, "what the?" Wasn't it Chevy Chase that stated, "fun, fun, we are going to have so much fnnn fun you are going to be whistling Dixie out of your a hole!" No one, such as the AD or President reads these post on this website nor should they, I can promise you that, so what the heck, let it all hang out!

Actually several attempts were made to settle this case without involving the court system at all. And the University's response? That's right. Nothing. They were also offered the opportunity to contribute to Coach P's media release. Their response? If you said "nothing" you're two for two. And they certainly weren't shy about using the media to issue a completely false press release and destroy a person's career. At least when Coach P went to the media he was telling the truth and had the facts to back it up.

As for embarrassing the University and hurting their "image", they did a fine job of that all on their own. It's important to remember that this didn't have to happen in this manner. The University is totally responsible for where we are today. It has absolutely nothing to do with wins, losses, personality, or any other "measurement". It has everything to do with how people should be treated and, in this case, that was despicable and inexcusable.

Neckfansince71.....I believe it was a reverse pass against NDST and I too couldn't believe myself. Was at that game and haven't seen a live win since 2004, but will continue to make the trip at least once a year to cheer on my leathernecks.

Is it football season yet?

Soon to be a new year and a new start. WIU and our sports programs currently have some issues, but we're all WIU fans here, so to steal a quote from Rondney, "can't we all just get along."

7-4 Next year. I'm a dreamer.
