I hope this doesn't become a Coach Crane bashing.
But I would like to see Western schedule more games vs teams in Chicago. There are a lot of talented players in Chicago and that would help recruiting.
There are enough D1 teams in Chicago; Northwestern, UIC, DePaul, Loyola, I would prefer not to play Chicago St. I know we played NU last year or maybe two years ago. But we should be in Chicago at least once a year.
I hope to see no more non D1 schools on our schedule.

I agree on eliminating non-DI schools.
Western's schedule has included a single trip to the Chicago area in the last several years. They went to Northern Illinois in DeKalb during the 2007-08 and 2009-10 seasons. During the 2008-09 season the played at Northwestern in the Doubletree White Invitational during Thanksgiving. Loyola was a home game this year...maybe they have a contract for a home/home and will be heading up there next season.
But I agree. With girls on the roster from Chicagoland and the number of DI Chicago schools, we should be scheduling more teams from that region. It could also save WIU some $$$ by cutting down on the cost of traveling.

| I too like the idea of playing D1 Chicago-area school. And DePaul would be big-time program to add. And heck, they're in the Big East, the same conference as perennial national championship contender UConn.

I don't consider DeKalb which is about 60 miles from Chicago, to be "Chicago". Certainly not like Evanston, which might as well be Chicago.

Blueliner,
I would tend to agree, and I'm sure those from DeKalb would as well - DeKalb is not Chicago.
Heck, I wish we'd play Illinois State. The women are in the NIT finals again, for the 2nd time in a row.

I went to the online Western media guide and checked when we last played Illinois D1 schools.
Now there is something that hasn't been mentioned and should be. Coach Crane may have wanted to play those Chicago area schools but those schools turned us down, for whatever reason. So I'm not putting blame on just Coach Crane. I just want to see more games vs Chicago area schools.
Chicago St. 2007
DePaul 1983!!!!!
UIC 1994
Loyola 2009 but before that, 1983.
Northwestern 2008 but before that, 1982
NIU 2009
Bradley 2006
Illinois 2006
Eastern 2000
ISU 2008
SIU 1992
SIU Edwardsville 1986

I would also like to see the team go to the West Coast, every once in awhile. They played in Alaska a few years ago.
There are many schools in California, Oregon and Washington that Western could get two games into a weekend.
I know budget limitations maybe an issue. But I think that a West Coast trip, would be a great trip for the players and coache.

| Agreed, agreed, agreed. Part of the challenge is getting schools who have a game to give in their RPI schedule. The Summit is so weak a win against us is worse than a loss to a comparable school from a stronger conference (Big Ten, Big Twelve, SEC, MAC, OVC, etc.). I think the Illinois game was in the NIT in '06 so that can't really count in the figures. Loyola, Northeastern, are two others, even going into Indiana up there close to the city would be good. No incentive though. Look how often larger schools come here to play? Back when we had that long home winning streak no larger school could afford to come here and take a loss, now there is no incentive at all. Going up there would be good for recruiting as would a marquee trip out west or to the southwest. Isn't that part of what you would sell recruits on? Fun, nice trips to play against good competition? Hard to do w/ limited funds (among other things), though as noted.

You're right about playing Illinois, in 2006, it was the WNIT.
Last time before that, was 1983!!!!
But if you look at our series vs Kansas and KSU, all games but one have been played during the Coach Crane era.
I know there is a lot of talent in Kansas and that is where Coach Crane is from. But we are in Illinois. We should play Illinois schools on a regular basis, maybe not every single year but 8 out of 10 years is fine.
I understand that Illinois, DePaul, and Northwestern may not want to schedule us, but there is no reason why ISU, SIU, EIU and NIU shouldn't be on our schedule.

| When is the last time Kansas or Kansas State returned a game and came to Macomb? How much money are we getting to go there and get beat so the Crane's can have a family reunion on WIU money? Oh, and all the other Kansas people?
