From June 1997 Campus Connections regarding Bryan's donation of $300K (http://www.wiu.edu/U-Relations/connection/archive/1997/6.27.97.html)
Chicago Bear Bryan Cox Donates Gift To WIU
Chicago Bears linebacker and Western Illinois University graduate Bryan Cox has once again displayed his personal best for his alma mater. However, this time it's not on the WIU football field where Cox shone as a college football star, but instead as a loyal WIU alumnus.
Cox has committed $300,000 to WIU's Athletic Department to help it build a new facility for football that will house a weight training room, coaches' offices, meeting rooms, reception area and a locker room area. Cox's generosity will cover half the estimated cost of the total project.
This is not Cox's first contribution to the University. In 1995 Cox donated $10,000 to the athletic department to purchase weight training equipment. WIU head football coach Randy Ball reflected that the gift Cox is giving to WIU is not only important for the facility construction, but also because it exemplifies the unselfish and caring side of Cox that often goes unheralded.
From the press release when Bryan was inducted into the Leatherneck Hall of Fame in 2006 (http://www.wiu.edu/newsrelease.sphp?release_id=6625)
With all of the success on the field, Cox has always found time to give back to Western, as well as the community he grew up in. He has been a major donor to the Leatherneck football program, including a lead gift for the new locker room/weight room complex. Cox also hosts charity golf tournaments and softball games with proceeds going to The Boys and Girls Club of East St. Louis.
