Using Brophy Hall or Horrabin would neither deprive students of class space nor be a case of "bullying" academic units.
First, athletics already uses Brophy Hall daily. Tennis, soccer, softball, and football all practice there during the winter already. It would just be a matter of squeezing basketball into the schedule. Maybe soccer would move over to Western Hall.
Second, if Athletics does use Horrabin Hall, you can be sure there will be some type of compensation paid to ROTC or the College of Education. When Athletics uses the Rec Center, for instance, they pay to do so.

The teams you mention already practice until late at night. When would you propose they "squeeze" into the already bloated schedule? There simply isn't much room in the afternoon portion of the spectrum. Maybe the teams would like to practice at 6 a.m. like swimmers frequently do? Otherwise you are looking at moving class scheduling around which impacts students who pay tuition to go to school and get done. The fact is the administration is ineffective and inept and the apathy towards athletics at WIU hasn't helped them or done them any favors in fund raising or level of interest. A bunch of wanna bees like us on a message board does not an athletics program make. The problems are mounting and our university needs to make some tough decisions. The cash cow has gone to pasture and we need to realize the survival of the programs are what we're talking about. WIU is an academic institution. Athletics doesn't own Brophy, to the best of my knowledge they don't pay the COE to use the space and when students start to be impacted by scheduling we need to look at what our priorities are. Plain and simple. Any crystal I have is not in the form of a ball, unless it is a highball

I hope a space near campus can be used. I think near the football field behind the scoreboard would allow for enough space to put something down for good. Do it once and do it right.
