Ok...... so I got tired of posting messages on the other thread!!! Too much negativity and the same 3 or 4 people talking in circles. I am tired of people talking like they know what it is like to play for her. Tired of people thinking they have a valid opinion.... of which is based on zero experience.
I want the program to succeed!!! Plain and simple. The woman who made WIU WBB successful was not Regina Miller...... took the team to an NCAA appearance. But what did that get us? I took more pride in playing for a successful program every night we competed than making an "appearance" in the tournament. Coach Crane made WIU WBB a program to be proud of.
I am asking people to stand up for someone who has given 110% to Western Illinois University. Show support for the program!!! Don't you think she knows that something has to change?? Do you think she likes the way things are right now?? What people don't realize is that it takes time to fix a program...... I mean look at the men's side!!!
Words like "bullying" and "traumatizing" have no place on this message thread!!!
Let me take you back to a good old fashioned piece of advice..... "If you can't say something nice......don't say anything at all!"
Coach Crane, if you are reading this...... I want you to know that there are a lot of people out there who owe a lot to you. Former players, colleagues, and friends of yours do respect you and support you. I have known you now for more than a decade and I consider myself privileged to have been a part of Westerwind (back then) basketball. Playing for you had its tough moments but without those I wouldn't be who I am and as strong I am today. You taught us more than basketball....... you taught us about life and how to be a courageous woman. I can't thank you enough!!!
Go Leathernecks!!!!

| On business trip to KC/Overland Park. Coach at Johnson County CC and wife are good friends. As I took my seat I looked across the aisle and there was Coach Crane's parents. I introduced myself and told them I was and old Leatherneck and new Leslie. Coach Crane recently offered two girls from JCCC. One was a pre season All American. Presently JCCC is ranked #2 in DII Jucos. Coach Crane's dad told me the pre season All American wanted to major in Animal Science with hopes of going to Vet School. When I told him my degree from Western was in Ag. Ed/Animal Science he told me to go talk to the parents which I did. I also introduced myself to the other set of parents. Both are planning visits to WIU in the near future. Both are small town KS girls originally. The one lives in the Overland Park area now.

Honestly, former player...how long do you plan on riding Tiffany's coat tails? Completely out of curiosity...what years did you play for WIU? I'd like to visit the correlation, seeing as I know the repercussion of 'a$$-u-me' I can say with 100% certainty that I have a very accurate idea of when you played for Crane. Your story book ending for coach has lost its luster, and has now become more of an annoyance. When times are good, it's an easy walk on main street.
I played high school ball. Just a decent, solid varsity starter on the boys team. You would offer me no competition. I can't say that about any respected D1 women's program in the country. Food for thought.

Could it be that the two former players who have promoted how much they gained from their relationship and coach/player experience with Coach Crane played together? One self identified as Z so that sets the time frame and confirm who I think the other is.
But besides who they are/might be, their virtually identical support of Coach Crane, while others from what I'm pretty sure based on there comments are both past and recent eras points to a unique possibility. Either, they were fortunate that playing for Coach Crane then was different, although I know Zane was in at least part of that era and she came very close to quitting because of the verbal abuse; or perhaps more likely they are still suffering from the Stockholm syndrome.
I'm sure there are good experiences to have come from continuing athletics in college, but I still can not, under any circumstances, support the obvious emotional abuse that is inflicted. What we see as just fans is embarrassing indeed, and likely just the tip of the iceberg with regard to what happens at practice, in the lockerroom, etc.

Recruiting violation is right. Hmm, booster/alumni talking to recruits and their parents off campus directed in that direction by the coaches father? The audacity of the two of them is what is most disturbing. Their lack of concern for the rules dovetails nicely into their abusive mode of operation in dealing with student athletes. If a coach and/or their family are willing to break rules in order to get you to sign, what message should that send to recruits and their families? What will they do once they have you locked in for a year? This all goes back to a lack of leadership from those who are ultimately responsible for keeping track of these types of actions. This time it took place in KS (do they know how to recruit anywhere else? Haven't we all talked about this handicap already, beat it to death I believe), there have been times in the past it happens during games and on-campus visits right in Western Hall.
Former Player, waaaaaaa, waaaaaaa. Don't like the negative, albeit accurate comments? Fine, you don't have too. Assuming, as Fan 56 addresses as well as WIU02, that others have no athletic experience is just plain ignorant and elitist on your part (trying to figure how playing at WIU makes you one of the elite but if it works in your mind that is what we'll talk about). There WERE very successful teams led by Coach Crane in a very, very weak conference. NO NCAA tournament appearances, and embarrassing, entitled displays of immature, abusive behavior. The only thing that has changed from then to now is the winning. In case you haven't noticed, for the last four years we haven't done much of it. Winning affords coaches too much lattitude by administrators. Ask Bobby Knight how that worked for him once he quit winning with regularity. Unfortunately Crane views herself as a Knight, she must because if you watch other female coaches, you don't see them acting like such a horses a** as she regularly does. The crowd is tired of it, the administration is mismanaged and it is time for a change and a new era. She isn't half the technician that Knight was either so shake that image from your mind right away.

Oh my God ! I hear that Coach Crane is contemplating heading back to Kansas to coach ! She found a college in the land of OZ, where you click you heels instead of stomping them to win ! Dorothy is the AD there, the Tin Man has no heart, the scarecrow has no brain and the Lion has no courage ! Sounds like a good start and if it starts going bad, you just get in a hot air balloon and float away !!!!!!!! Feel free to do that now here !
Women's basketball is the best !

I have stayed away from this topic basically because I have found it to be filled with a bunch of negative "ninnies!" But last night's game caught my attention. You have got to evaluate a coach on consistency and improvement. If you have a young team, you are looking for them to develop as the year goes on. You are looking for team improvement! Obviously after last night's ball game, that has not happened. Change is good! Maybe it is truly time for a change in this situation!

Huskie,
Players have left and moved to greener pastures. Worsttimeofmylife as report that positive change in this forum. Others have left, but media reports have not told us to where. However, contact with some of them indicating that they are still playing basketball and having far better experiences. True, some have chosen to give up the sport at the college level and their mental health was far more important to them than what should be a game. And just this year, Lyndi Thorman has transferred to a far better program in San Antonio.
So your concept of doubting that those who have complained about Coach Crane can't do any better is clearly false. Change is necessary, both for Western's basketball program or recover, both in image and success, and for Coach Crane to find a new start where she can bring enthusiasm rather than continued negativity.
