There seems to be a concern developing from some posters that only positive things should be written on the board concerning WESTERN. I can understand where they are coming from. However, it is a forum, and attempts to stifle unwanted criticisms isn't likely to happen.
You may not agree with others, and that's fine. If what they say really burns you, ignore them. I hope the board will not become a place where only good things are said, and legitimate issues are "off limits".
Everyone has an opinion. I may not like it, but, that's fine.
If someone wants to start a new board where only certain posts are allowed- feel free.
Generally, folks know when they have gone to far, and reel back in for awhile. Criticism doesn't mean lack of support for the entire school and it's mission.

Not sure if this comment was meant for me or not but I would like to make a point. I happen to be a Leatherneck Club member who lives in the suburbs of Chicago. Last year I happen to go down for the "President's reception" game when WIU beat SDSt. on that great shot. It was also great to see such a well coached SDst. team. But being the pud I am sometimes, and with my wife hanging with my daughter at the Holiday Inn, I did not realize that I had a free lunch waiting for me in the decorated area on the east side of Western Hall. I really did not see anybody that I really knew and felt like those I did know had other things going on, even when I went to the WAC reception area I felt out of place and kinda like an "intruder!" Not sure why I felt that way, maybe it was because of my experience at a 7th grade dance when I could not get anyone to dance with me (funny how childhood memories haunt us later in life). It was not until later that my wife said, "dummy, didn't you see the check in area!!! You were invited! The invite is on the refrig! DAAAAAAAA! Well instead of proclaiming on this board that outsiders were not welcomed at WAC functions, I called DR and talked with him. I have talked with him at other times in the past and I know he felt bad about it. I am not a 4 figure supporter but yet DR took the time to tell me that I was always welcome! Maybe you have had different experiences with the administration. I know people often are busy and faill to take the time.
I have suggested that the Leatherneck club expand to include a group in the suburbs and this in the future may come to pass. I think the main problem now is cash flow. Tough to expand in these times.
I don't think everything is rosy in the athletic department at all times. I just feel like there are posters that seem to take the "French Revolution" approach, meaning if they are not calling for your head now, they will be later.
When 56 complained about the Purple and Gold gala and explained what could be done, it reminded me of the people that constantly criticize me for the way I am currently running a school anniversary. They either say things later, or behind my back. Both ways do not help the cause.
State your side, state your case, make your claims, . but don't be upset if they are debated in a nose to nose manner on this board. Somewhere for all of us the truth can be found in all of our observations and opinions. I can't believe the bad luck that seems to be a part of all athletic programs. UNI is ranked, gets beat by Bradley, and then their stud big man goes out and gets drunk and picked up by the police. He should have known better. I get the feeling though that if that happened at WIU some posters would be blaming the athletic administration personally and the coach.
Democracy gives us the chance to say what we feel and the chance for people to claim we don't have any idea what we are talking about! Isn't it grand!

No, nothing was meant for any one individual. Just a general observation.
We go back a ways on the board, and have agreed on some things, and not on others, which is fine.
I appreciate your last post. WIU does seem to be snake bit some, and that might be a part of the frustration some feel.
I really hope we get that one big thing that pushes over the line that will get the ball rolling which leads to great things for WIU.

I love WIU and WIU sports. Necksfansince71 and I have met and hope he feels welcomed when he sees me. I may not always be positive, but never doubt my loyalty and want for WIU and it's sports programs to be the best they can be.

You have always made me feel welcomed! I think though that its just a matter of people having the time or taking the time to just say "hi!" I wish I could be around more!
