| I see the Western Athletic Club is now the Leatherneck Club, was it really necessary to change the name. I don't know if i want to give this year or not. I am totally disappointed in how Coach Patterson was handled and not real thrilled with the athletic dept as a whole, but the student athletes shouldn't suffer either.....

Aren't they suffering under the current administration already? Money talks, and talks, and talks and talks some more. The athletes don't suffer from the dinky little amount of money not collected by the athletic department's inept fund raising arm. They suffer from abusive coaching, poor administration and lack of funding on a mega scale.
Unless you're donating in the 5 figure arena, all of us combined on this list couldn't throw enough money at this incompetent administration to make a difference. However, NOT giving, or giving w/ earmarks for say, academic advising or to the library sends a message that has not been sent consistently by the community. Decreases in donations is something athletic boards notice, trustees MAY notice an the president SHOULD notice. You want to give Dr. Goldfarb something he can act on to get rid of these incompetent people? STOP GIVING THEM MONEY, GIFTS, TRUSTS, AUCTION PARTICIPATION and everything else.

I thinking that taking the name "Western" out of the name is a mistake.
President Goldfarb should be concerned by any decrease in contributions from Athletic Club members. He should also be concerned by the drop in seaon tickets being sold.
It is time for Goldfarb to take some action to clean up the Athletic Department. He really needs to get that job done before he retires.
He can start by getting rid of Van Alstine and Johnson.
Let's Go WESTERN !!

Boy, there must be some kind of negative energy field which effects certain people in the Macomb area. The letter, and the printed information is really classy`IMO and it would appear to me that the only people we are going to hurt by holding on to our regular donations is the student athletes themselves. I give my hard earned cash to the university I graduated from! In support of my alma mater! Maybe Yokal, you are toooooo local!

Fan not sure what you mean about taking the Western out of the name? I must be missing something.
Everyone is entitled to spend their entertainment money as they see fit. Most people prefer to see some cost benefit though when giving money. Ask yourself what is the return on those dollars in the last few years? That is all I'm asking. I give money to my alma mater too, just in different places than I've given it before. Love the Purple and Gold, dissatisfied with the management of the athletic department et al.
Maybe I am too local but isn't that what WIU subsists on? When they complain it is because the local people aren't supporting them or giving enough? Where are the big bucks from all their famous professional former players (I hesitate to use the label alumni as I'm not sure who all has graduated), who should show some loyalty to the P & G? Hmmmm wonder what Aaron Stecker will give to the program that knifed his former coach in the back. How about Mike Scieferts? Maybe they didn't have a love for their coach and they'll give anyway, how much has that been? I'm not so local that I'm loco
Make sure you get a receipt for tax purposes because that and a warm fuzzy feeling from the smell of burning your money are all you'll get in return besides a nasty hang over from the kool aid the athletic department is serving.

Regarding the name change:
"Western Athletic Club" is now called "The Leatherneck Club".
So the name "Western" has been removed.
Let's Go WESTERN !!

Name change still doesn't bother me any. Lot of nothing be made over this in my humble opinion.

I remember the athletic club being called "The Leatherneck Club" many years ago. I still have a windbreaker with that on it.
Personally, Ilike that name better.
