I love statistics! Education today is data driven which often makes sense. But, you have got to be careful how you look at the data. Its usually better to examine it in a series of a couple of years just to keep things real. So, here is the list of underclass players that left WIU last year. ie. On the roster for 2008 but not in 2009.

68 Adongo, Danny OL 6-2 270 Jr. Pomona, Calif. (Claremont)
84 Coleman, Nick WR 5-10 190 So. Riverdale, Ill. (Thornton)
76 Davidson, Demetrius OL 6-3 270 So. Chicago, Ill. (Morgan Park)
11 Davis, Allen QB 6-2 220 Fr. Calumet Park, Ill. (Julian)
83 Duguay, Chris TE 6-4 215 Fr. Melbourne, Fla. (Melbourne)
12 Duvendack, Adam WR 6-0 195 Fr. East Peoria, Ill. (Metamora)
21 Jackson, Tim DB 5-10 190 Jr. Bettendorf, Iowa (Bettendorf)
17 Jones, C.J. DB 6-1 175 Jr. Eau Claire, Wis. (Ellsworth C.C.) (Memorial)
31 Lines, Eric LB 6-2 235 Jr. Morris, Ill. (Morris)
67 Markey, Anthony OL 6-6 320 RFr. Dallas City, Ill. (Nauvoo-Colusa)
80 Martin, A.J. TE 6-4 240 RFr. Belleville, Ill. (East)
48 Moore, Matt FB 5-11 225 So. Tinley Park, Ill. (Tinley Park)
82 Oswald, Dave DL 6-6 250 RFr. Cary, Ill. (Cary-Grove)
28 Porter, Chris RB 5-9 180 Fr. Lawton, Okla. (Lawton)
92 Riley, Chris DL 6-2 255 Jr. Waukegan, Ill. (Mt. Carmel)
24 Walker, Tim LB 6-4 220 Jr. Lombard, Ill. (Glenbard East)
86 Wilson, John TE 6-4 230 So. Wheaton, Ill. (Glenbard South)
93 Yerkes, Matt DL 6-2 225 RFr. Palos Heights, Ill. (Marist)
66 Zeller, Dan OL 6-3 260 Jr. Schaumburg, Ill. (Conant)

I count 19 players who did not comeback to the 2009 team! Interesting huh! This of course was before the TV-DP thing. This was after 6-5 not 1-10. Interesting huh!

to be honest with you, I am really not too sure what it means except the fact that I have the time on Saturday to compare two rosters. Maybe I will dig a little more. Why did Dan Zeller not return when an O line was extremely important to last years group. Wasn't he a captain. Was he just tired of football?

Just thought you all would like some more data!

More data! The number who left between 2007 and 2008 was 12! So far this is what we have!

2007 12 2008

2008 19 2009

2009 18 2010

Is there a trend here? Not quite sure? Guess we need some more data!

Here is the information 2006 - 2007. Lets add season record too.

Between: 2005 ? 2006 Record for 2006 (5 - 6)

2006 17 2007 Record for 2007 (6 - 5)

2007 12 2008 Record for 2008 (6 - 5)

2008 19 2009 Record for 2009 (1 - 10)

2009 18 2010

I have noticed that anumber of the players who failed to return were from Florida. So does anyone see any trends? I know there were high hopes in 2008! Then Coach Patterson got sick, but we started 5-2. Why would so many leave between that season and last year's season? Athletes do move on for my playing time at a different level, to be closer to home, and some just get tired of the grind, while others just get hurt too much.

BTW, I am not trying to be a smart a-- in this case. I just thought one year's worth of data was not enough to get a good picture of what is going on with the roster and it turns out that even 5 years worth of data does not answer all the questions except that "athletes do move on!"

I think all the players leaving must be Coach Crane's fault....

I believe some of these players left because they graduated and opted not come back for a 5th year (Zeller, Jackson, Danny A.) A few of the other players left because they weren't going to start and or play much (Coleman, Duvendack). Grades could have been the case for others.

Lines had injuries.

Riley actually played this last year and finished his eligibility.
