Okay, I will start the discussion. I think the new staff has filled the obvious holes in both the defense and offense. You can't run an offense if you haven't got time X 2!!!!!! We got some big boys to block up front and some tailbacks to move the ball which should go nicely with our mobile qb and Lito and Co. Add to that defensive linemen who can put the rush on and you have basically the answer to the two problems we had last year. The impact of this group will be immediate and will move us meteorically up to extremely dangerous.
I am pleased!!!!! And even though the DP thing is still hanging out there, it seems that it did not keep us from getting the athletes we needed.
Your thoughts comachero's???????

| I am a little concerned with the lack of high school players. I was hoping they would have a little bit more balance in that regard. You never really know what you are getting with juco's or transfers. They don't always live up to their billing. Are we really going to play all these new OL as well? I can't see them just sitting down some of the guys that have been putting time in since their freshman year.

| I wouldn't be too worried this year about the lack of high school players recruited. Coming off of a 1-10 season and with some big holes to address, I think the coaching staff felt they needed to find experience in those positions to right the ship. WIU cannot (rarely) find any freshmen that will come in and make an impact...those kids are playing in the Big 10, etc.. But, you're right that there are no guarantees these players will do what is expected of them. For this year though, I feel the coaching staff took the right approach to fill the needs first. We need to get more experience out on the field and with that, hopefully, some upper class leadership to help the younger players develop the older they get. After talking with several coaches, it appears the Coach P/TVA cloud did not really interfere with the recruiting especially out of state kids. Was nice to see them tap into Michigan and Ohio for talent as well. Looking forward to spring camp already!

Didn't Sprayberry work his way into the two deep at the end of the season? I know that they were bulking him up behind Koroma, right?
Anyone else leaving? I was thinking that after a 1-10 season, Coach P gone, all the other coaching turmoil and all these juco's that others might leave.
Was Durley the one that the MAC schools were all over?

After just a quick glance, I saw that Tyler Carey was gone too, that TE we picked up a couple years ago.
I would assume that Durley was the person the MAC schools were talking to due to his rivals page, which lists a bunch of MAC schools as interested.

We're also missing Justin Rideau - WR All Newcomer, Duck Lowrance DB and Schneider DB. Not too concerned about those DB's, but Rideau was a good receiver.
Anyone know what happened to last years recruits, Hassan Amen DB, Derek Shay OL, and Ocious Samuel DE? These guys all seemed like good ball players and people that could help this year.

Those are good questions about the players. There is a chance that a few of them left, but I find it hard to believe they all left. They would have to sit out a year or transfer to a lower division.
That Schneider played quite a bit last year, didn't he?

Rideau was the #2 reciever with one year of elegibility left. Samuel, Sprayberry and Aman were three of our most highly touted recruits...
Honestly, I think this class is indicitive of our problems... its not like these recruits were the most well known guys comming out of JC. Its more like we were just plugging the dam instead of building a future. What are the 2014/2015 leathernecks going to look like with 7 freshmen in this class?
I wish I knew the details of these departures, but I suspect its due to the record and the coaching fiasco.

Just a couple of things!
1. Tyler Carey is still a registered student at WIU! Maybe he redshirted?
2. Sprayberry obviously ended up getting some type of bacteria which he almost did not beat and is now going to play at St. Josephs in Indiana, D2.
3. I also looked up Shay, Samuels, Amede, and Rideau but not were listed as students.
4. We had huge holes in our offensive line this year and I see absolutely nothing wrong with opening up camp with a show me what you got attitude. The youngsters who played hopefully have improved, and the Juco's that have been signed have already 2 years of college experience and should be ready to help. The only thing that is for certain when on scholarship is that your tuition and room - board is taken care of. No one gets first dibs on any position just because they were there last year.
5. We couldn't put pressure on the qb it seems that we went out to get some people that can. Once again the juco's walk in with two years of playing experience which can't hurt. Competition to see who plays defense can't hurt.
6. You mentioned the season and the coaching fiasco! Which fiasco are you speaking of?
I don't think juco players are going to be a constant, but at this time, the ship needs to be placed back on course.
