I was going to start this thread as I have done the past two years... but this year I decided that I would wait until I had some news! Well someone beat me to it, thanks for getting it going. I don't really consider rivals news because it has a very poor track record with WIU recruiting, as in it very rarely has anyone who actually commits to WIU.
Well, we are less than two weeks from signing day, and still nothing out there other than player X chooses school Y over WIU. And its not for the lack of effort on my part, there is just really nothing out there. I checked SIU on rivals, and they have 75 potential recruits out there, as opposed to 17 from WIU. I know Rivals doesn't mean much, but recruits look at these websites too... and I think that it is still an important element in the PR battle. I think its safe to say we are getting smoked by the other Illinois schools at this point. Most other schools have some committments reported by their local newspapers. Does WIU try to keep a lid on these things? Maybe, but with information everywhere these days, I don't think its doing them any favors. The lack of information out there creates a perception of poor recruiting, and the results on the field lately justify the claim.
Again, I know I say something like this every year, but lets hope I'm wrong...
Lets hope we get some good athletes in here! AND, lets hear about it too! I want some news!

I too do not fully endorse Rivals when it comes to FCS recruiting. They just do not provide good coverage, plus you have several kids who say they have interest in Western, even though Western may not even be considering them.
The troubling thing is, typically Western has at least 2-3 commits on Rivals before signing day.

I am always the one that says, "be patient, lets see what happens on signing day!" And I am going to repeat that mantra!!
The advantage of hiring Hendrickson and staff was the fact that they could hit the recruiting road running! If we had had to do an international search, we would have lost valuable time! I think need and PT will have more to do with this class than DP and his lawsuit. As difficult a situation as DP's situation has become, I am really not too sure how important it is to 17 and 18 year olds. I don't care whether he is suing to regain the head coaching position or not, I really don't think that will happen. Tom Casey's posts have remained positive and it seems like things are progressing in the right direction. I will be happy if this staff's recruiting class has more juco and transfers in it to stop the bleeding. A healthy Barr and a stud running back with some offensive lineman will allow the Necks to move in the right direction.
I realize I should still be reeling after the TV-DP circus, but I am ready to move on and enjoy once again Leatherneck football!

This was a quote from Tom Casey's Twitter page from yesterday!
"wiudefense
Having a great recruiting weekend! Picked up more commitments and expect more before its over. Go Necks! about 13 hours ago from web"
The staff has been very aggressive and has increased their visibility all through the state! I wonder how Matt Barr's hand is?

Here are 17 athletes who have listed WIU as a school they are considering!
By the way, South Dakota State has not listed any of their commitments, SIU has four, all from out of state. Lets see what February 3rd brings.

All State Player (Nevada 2005)
OL Gerald Crisp Centennial 6'2 290
Crisp is another unsung star but without him the explosive Centennial offense would have never gotten off the ground. He brings a little extra to the table as a powerful blocker that is able the carry a lead role as a fluent blocker as well as a disruptive force on defense.

Someone start a board so we can keep track!

| My sources tell me over the weekend that two more California jucos (S and DE) have orally committed to WIU as well. A group of recruits visited this past weekend with one more group scheduled for next weekend prior to signing day. Expect to finally see more transfers this next season than we have in recent years.
