Well, I guess I have to go to church now ! (ha) Last night's win was a great win for the team and Coach Crane ! The girls had only 13 turn-overs and they played great defense on their best two offensive players ! Good game plan !!!!!!!!! It just goes to show you that anything can happen if players believe in themselves and a coach that instills it, along with teaching and passion for the game.

Women's basketball is the best !

Posted my congrats and best wishes for Monday on the new congratulations thread. Doesn't change what I think on this thread. The team deserves to celebrate and focus on the next game. One game does not a season make, or 2 or 3 or 4 seasons for that matter. The theme of the dance is Change and that will remain the same. Way to go ladies you played hard, had a good game plan from all reports and were rewarded. I do have to say I thought it was hysterically funny how the radio announcers made a point of saying WHY The Grim Reaper (Todd. I use this name not as a slam to Todd, I actually feel sorry for him all these years having to do the crappy post games after losses and then we get the gleeful head coach on wins. Not very fun I'm sure for him) was doing the post game interview. It sounded like they were reading a memo from TVA. Nice to hear the information but when you get SOOOO little information from an unnecessarily tight lipped department it makes ANY info release stand out with a spot light on it. I just thought it was funny. Transparency is not something WIU athletics is known for. All this criticism will go away when you are actually consistent in how you handle the media and your fan relationships. End the cloak and dagger era!

The question for next year is "Will there be a sophomore class" ?????

The 2009-2010 team had no sophomores because none of the freshmen from the 2008-2009 team returned.

Let's Go WESTERN!!

Last year ended with just 2 freshman on the roster - Katie Horsman and Jantine Kraak. Both left Western, Jantine to play back in the Netherlands, and Katie I don't know.

This year the season ended with 6 freshman on the roster - Marina Hartman, Christina Jones, La'Paris Newsom, Jackie Rieger, Lunden Roberts, and Michele Salvatorie. Let's hope we don't go 0-fer again, but I highly doubt they'll all choose to come back, at least not to basketball. Time will tell.

And it will be interesting to see what prevails when the signing period opens April 14th.

Will the assistant coach merry-go-round continue also?

I know I'd be surprised if Stephanie stays. Don't know about Kerry. As a GA it should be for 2 years, but the last one quit (though stayed in school) after one. Elizabeth should be graduating, but realistically, Crane kept her as a GA because she was a great manager and in fact was instrumental in keeping Zane from giving up hope. Of course Todd will stay, he's one of the family having played for Daddy in juco.

The thing about Steph is what else is she going to do? I couldn't believe she came back here. Three years of bench riding, dog house living exile followed by a solid but not outstanding senior year once she decided she was a survivor and would try to have fun in spite of Crane led me to believe we'd never see her or her family again (look at the stats if you can find them, year to year playing time, production etc).

Knock me over with a feather, she shows up on Crane's bench! There is a reason only former players stay longer than a year. It sure as _ell isn't the award winning social life, shopping or concerts. Going back to a familiar thread here, pay attention. Stockholm Syndrome. Long suffering, abused, identifying with the abuser, can't live in a world without the abuser or something very similar. Does anyone know what Steph was doing employment wise after she left Macomb?

Pray tell, what suddenly made her a coach? Not a grad assistant but an assistant coach? Talk about poor leadership and management. She seems like a nice young woman but come on...there are hundreds of people in the country who know more about coaching than Stephanie Lovingood. Would we try to hire any of them? Or better still, would any of them come here if they did any homework on the program? More evidence that substantial CHANGE is needed in this program. Top to bottom.

Steph was playing overseas and also working on her fashion design career. Her dream is to be the next Williams sister's in terms of combining sports with fashion.

I think family support is was enabled Steph to last out 4 years of Crane as a player - and I don't mean the team family, I mean hers.

How many NCAA appearances has Coach Crane went to?

How many Summit/Mid Con Conference tournys has she won?

How many Summit/Mid Con regular season championships has she won?

How many assistant coaches have left? Becky Tyo, Rita Castans, who else? I contacted Becky through facebook and asked why she left, I also told her how much I enjoyed watching her play. She replied she didn't want to talk about her coaching experience.

What is Coach Crane's SOS? strength of schedule? Pretty weak. Always a game or two vs a non D1 school, the Truman St., Hannibal-LaGrange???, Illinois-Springfield??? and the Quincys, of the lower division world.

Coach Crane has regressed since 06. It is time for a change. She brought the program up to a certain level but has clearly shown she can't take the program any higher.

Time to hire a coach who maybe able to to us to a higher level.
