Does anybody know if any of the players that have left, have complained to the NCAA. I know I think it was last year that SIU women's coach was forced out after players were leaving and complained about being verbally abused.

I don't know for sure but to me that would be an AD decision, not an NCAA violation. Parents can be very powerful friends, and adversaries, if players complain loudly enough, parents support them, talking to people in their hometowns, talking to AAU coaches, HS coaches and others, a coach can essentially get blackballed in a region or state.

Hmmmm, where do most of Coach Crane's players come from? Kansas, Eastern Europe, and fairly small towns where they are not heavily recruited. Sooo, the European parents might be in attendance once a year (they have a different mentality about a coaches role and behavior), don't know how often the Kansans make it to home games, and the small town folk, well Macomb is a big place to them and they're just pleased as punch to be here. After all, we have a Buffalo Wild Wings.

Where are the suburban Chicago and St. Louis players? Springfield? Quincy? Peoria? (those in the know, know that Lovingood didn't do squat until her senior year and was not happy. I almost fell over when she came back as a coach. Not sure who is more desperate, Stephanie or Crane), Rock Island? Oh, we had a good one from Rockford a few years back. The players we have have no roots, no connections, no support when they are verbally abused.

Lyndi Thorman was a local kid with support and look how long she lasted. Bet she is the last local kid you see in the women's program as long as Crane is here. What happened with Whitney Lowe a few years back? She was good enough to go to Northern (oh, her dad was a successful high school coach and most likely wouldn't put up with Crane's antics), Lori Crisman from Rushville went to a directional Michigan school (central, eastern can't remember and feeling lazy). Why couldn't we get kids like those? A sign from way back that there is/was a problem. Or we weren't recruiting them which is a different thread.

What I don't understand is why some of these players are even recruited, regardless of where they are from. Some of them don't even play, Resheena Salter for example was here for two years and maybe got a total of 20 minutes. Why would Crane waste an entire scholarship for a girl who never played. There has got to be better girls out there than what she is finding.

Rashena didn't fit what Crane wanted. The talent was there based on her earlier career, but Crane simply didn't like her and had her sit. One game her last year she actually got some playing time and really showed what she could do - tough in the middle and on the boards. But if Crane doesn't like you personally, you don't play, regardless of how good you are or might be. And only those Crane can manipulate are the one's she want to deal with. Strong personalities - not wanted here is the message she sends. So instead of teach, she prefers to intimidate, indoctrinate, etc. She whoeth dare ask the coach a question shall siteth on the bench for an eternity.

Regarding the above:

Why is that behavior of Coach Crane allowed to continue year after year ????

How does that behavior reflect Western's Mission Statement ?????

Where is Van Alstine's leadership ?????

Let's Go WESTERN!!

Because TVA and Crane's managerial style is the same, he can't do anything to her or he won't. He rules through fear, she coaches through fear. The discussion on the last two posts are very revealing. Crane's dog house is infamous and certainly no secret. She is one of these coaches who evidently believes you must beat someone down to a gooie blob of nothing and then rebuild them in your own image. Problem with that is you have to recruit weak people in order to suceed at that. She must fancy herself as Bobby Knight. The strong ones leave, with their self esteem intact. The ones that stay are like abused children, or war victims who by the end of their four years embrace the coach as a parental type figure (think Stephanie Lovingood who returned recently). It continues because of poor leadership, lack of involvement by the community and donors and general apathy about the athletic programs. Eventually all this will die down too and that is what TVA counts on. These conversations, public with questions needs to continue, get more people on board and complain.

Knowing Stephanie, I just can't see her embracing Coach Crane as a parental type. As as far as parental types go, Coach Crane is far, far, different that Stephanie's parents.

Steph had her issues with her high school coach, she had her issues under Coaches Crane. Steph is a strong woman with a greatly supportive family. She's her to do good by the players and the program. Of course, that may mean Coaches Crane will be running her out of town as she has the strength to dare question the Gods.

I about fell over when I heard Stephanie was coming back as an assistant coach! I loved watching her play, but I never dreamed she would come back to work for Coach Crane.

Assistant coaches come and go about like players. Give Todd Schultze credit for sticking it out (but he does have kids in Macomb). I'll be curious to see how long Stephanie can take it. KC Cowgill was here a year. Jill Lewis didn't even last a year! I don't remember who was before that. I think she treats her staff as bad as the players.

Fan 56, I didn't mean to insult Stephanie or her family, I don't know her but over the years her family support was very obvious. I hope she is strong enough to stand up and help the program because we need it. You should be able to tell by how involved she is on the bench. We have a long history of assistant coaches sitting watching the BOSS, or paying extra attention to stats (which you need stats but don't we have a media services area they get stats from?) instead of interacting with the players. Watch them work and you will see it too.

Flat showing last night. Nice to see Lyndi Thorman supporting her former teammates. Maybe Lyndi could get a club going, Former Players of WIU Women's Basketball Support Group cheering from the stands. Lyndi isn't the first former player to come back and watch the rest of the season. Good for her.

BTW, saw our new concession stand manager last night. I wish him well. I hope he doesn't have plans for Christmas and he likes HS basketball at least as much as he likes baseball

Remember, Todd was one of Daddy Crane's players. That's why he stays. Zero ambition and because of Daddy Crane, got himself a job where he just says Yes Sir to Daddy and Yes Maam to Leslie.
