I have to agree with the posts indicating it's time for Coach Crane to go - and yes, that means both Dad and daughter.

Having Dad Crane seem like the one in charge is ridiculous. As a former athlete, I would refuse to play for a coach who was relying on their daddy for all their decisions. The Crane family travels with the team, too. Come on, Leslie, grow up.

Sure, there are many reasons players quit, but this seems to be happening with increased frequency. Leslie damn near lost Zane because of the verbal abuse. Jessica, Katy, and now Lyndi have left mid-season, plus all the others who chose not to come back for another season. There must be something wrong here, and it's not with the players being too soft.

Of course, it might be nice if the players actually improved during their collegiate career. But no, they are all forced into Coach Cranes (plural) system of the same thing year after year. Recruit a shooter, don't let them shoot, really makes sense don't you think.

Leslie had been looking to leave but shot herself in in the foot when mouthing off about the player Zane's teeth collided with at the conference tourney a few years back. It is time for her to leave. 5 year contract or not, it's time to go.

Oops, error. Not sure if Jessica left mid-season or not, but I was thinking of Sarah.

Coach Crane's antics have worn thin with a lot of fans. It really makes it uncomfortable to watch a game with that kind of behavior.

Her Dad used to sit close to me. That would be in Section E which is directly across from the WESTERN bench. He would yell across the floor to the bench--giving directions.

And he would also do this to the players on the floor. The past few years, he has been sitting up in the south balcony outside of the women's bb office.

Why is the behavior tolerated ??????

Certainly we have to be close to triggering a NCAA investigation into all of the players leaving the program.

When you look at past rosters...

After the 2006-07 season, Lindsay Boss didn't return.

During the 2007-08 season, ChrisDell Harris and Sarah Miller quit. Jameka McElroy and Katie Davenport didn't return the following year.

Katy Clark left mid-season of the 2008-09 year. Katie Horseman, Lindsey Wutt and Jantine Kraak didn't return.

Lyndi Thorman has left during the 2009-10 season.

10 players...makes you wonder?!?! At what point does an NCAA investigation take place?

And isn't it amazing that ChrisDell who supposedly was too slow (even after being recruited because of her quickness) joined the track team after leaving the BB team. And guess what - school and conference records in the indoor 60m and outdoor 100m sprints, plus good performances in the 200m and long jump. A great athlete, a great person, but not to the Cranes. I hope the track team gets the credit for ChrisDell's graduating, not the basketball team.

It may be time for Crane to go. But there is no way that she can be bought out of her contract. WIU can not afford it, I don't believe the booster club has the money to do so.

Perhaps the person who granted Coach Crane that contract extension would pony-up the money to buy her out. It's the least that he could do to remedy a problem that he allowed to continue.

When the NCAA dings us for too many transfers, that would be the window for getting rid of Crane for an AD interested in leadership.

Sorry to reply to my own post but this was too good:-o TVA did an interview with channel 10 on the phone (posted on WGEM web site). In talking about why MH was hired, TVA said one of the signs that MH was effective or the right choice was that no kid quit the team during his interim appointments. If this is true, extrapolate that statement out to at least 10 players who have quit the women's basketball team in the last four years (2006-2010 seasons), we should be seeing Coach Crane fired tomorrow. Especially given the huge difference in roster size ( ave. 13 player roster WBB vs min. 85 player roster for FB).

I have said for a while on this Message Board that Western's athletic problems all go back to a lack of leadership coming out of the Athletic Director's office.

I cannot understand why he has allowed the behavior of the Cranes (both Leslie and her dad) to continue for as long as it has. He has the authority to remedy that situation. But so far he has failed to act.

If the NCAA begins an investigation into all the players leaving the women's bb team, perhaps then he will do that job that provides him with a comfortable salary.
