| B-Ball Fan....I just feel that Mark deserves a chance to show what he can do with the program. I know he will do a few things differently and he has been loyal to WIU (and Coach P). As a parent, I would look for character, passion, and the importance that education is placed on a student-athlete. I think Mark exhibits all of that plus it does provide some continuity with the program. We're not talking about a program that needs a total housecleaning. Sure, there are no guarantees with Mark and the staff returning, but neither would there be by bringing in someone else. I'm not going to argue whether it's a right or wrong decision...only time will tell. I just feel that Mark deserved a chance to run the program the way he sees fit. I know his approach to bringing in a few more juco and transfers is a little more open than Caoch P was, but Mark also knows that they must fit into the program. Whether you like the move or not, let's put this nightmare season to rest and hope a return to prominence (and any level!) is soon coming. Plus, if I was a recruit, looking at the record this season along with the many young players returning, I might think that I would have an exscellent chance at ample playing time.

| WIU58, My thoughts exactly. I mirror everything you stated. I have donated since I graduated in '77 except for several years after Jack Margenthaler was fired by Gil Petersen. Coach P got me back on board. That ceased 9/25. I will honor my pledge to the WAC for the remainder of this year but no more. I wish MO, Leslie and Holly well with their programs.

Arlan, wake up and smell the coffee. There are no guarantees in life except death and taxes, the rest is a crap shoot. Stop being an apologist for these people. Loyal to the program (Mark Hendikson?), please. The knife in Coach P's back is sticking through his chest. MH is NOT the answer unless you are looking for 4-8 more years of 4 hour football games, crappy, dumb penalties (as evidenced in the last FB game), and a lack of developmental direction. This is a team effort, not contingent on the success or failure of MH but on the composite. AD, development, Tim's boss, and a buy in from students and the community. Be an apologist all you want but move out of the passing lane while you are doing it, you're in the way of progress as are all the rest of the people with your mindset. Pull your money, don't attend, stop giving that is the only thing this place understands and it takes YEARS to be felt because the amount given is so negligible.
BTW, the most recent Sagarin rating for WIU, prior to Thursday's game was 312/347 (basketball ranking, nothing to do with football). How does this situate WIU as a Division I team? Hmmmm only 35 teams in the country with worse ratings than us.

Apparently you are not allowed to have a few down years as a Division I team. You would think we are Indiana State after reading your posts. Are you going to give Coach Mo a chance or what? I'm sure if they go Division II they will win 20-25 games a year!
If you are going to measure TVA in this manner, then Patterson should've been canned a few years ago. I'm not the greatest supporter of TVA, however don't put a double standard out there. A few of the athletic programs are just having trouble getting over the hump. They will get over the growing pains and succeed.

177, a few down years can be lived with. Systemic failure, no, unacceptable. I never said anything about Ind. State it was too easy. If ISU won 20 to 25 games a season they should be excited Div. II or not. I'm more than eager to give Coach Mo a chance, I respect his record and I sincerely hope he can turn it around. I'm talking program wide.
I'd like to see Western Hall filled for something more than IHSA Super Sectional games and the high school Holiday Tournament. You're stuck on maintaining a store front that says "Division 1 Member" instead of looking at the problems or considering alternatives other than division status. The DII thread was simply a conversation. What is going to change to get them over the "growing pains" or the hump? WIU has competed at the DI level for decades. Where do the growing pains come from and when do they stop? Why in the devil do we have growing pains? What double standard are you talking about?
I'm focused on the lack of leadership and the experience of the student athletes at WIU. The student athlete experience shouldn't be so filled with concession stand assignments, raffles, jewelry sales and hawking t-shirts. If TVA wants to show he is serious about making changes for the improvement of the athletic program and experience hire an effective athletic department fund raiser, someone who can walk among monied people and corporations and get himself out raising money instead of the tired approach that obviously isn't working. The funding base for WIU athletics is not motivated. Who is to blame for that? Back to leadership, leadership and leadership.

This would have been a the perfect opportunity to clean house. With no playoffs since 2003 and the recruit talent dropping off, a nation wide coaching search should have happened. A new coach and staff would have shaken things up around here and hopefully got this team out of there loosing ways and back in the playoffs after a six year layoff. Hendrickson does not deserve a chance to lead this team. He and his staff has had there chance and they played the biggest part in the teams worst record. I also can't believe Coach Casey is staying. There is only one reason why a couple of teams run his style of "D", BECAUSE YOU CAN NOT WIN WITH IT!!!!!
BOTTOM LINE, I think this was a money move. I believe they are still paying Paterson and they could not afford to pay him and a new coach with proven success. Hendrickson came cheap that is why he was given the position. This is what we will have to look forward to the next few years with WIU's money crunch.
I drive 1:30 min. to watch the Necks play at home on Saturdays, that may be ending next season.
Commit to Excellence!!!!!!!
