I noticed on goleathernecks.com that WIU has renewed their agreement with WJEQ which was not a surprise but good news none the less.
My question is there was made mention that WJEQ is a 25,000 Watt station. Is that recentley new? I know they used to be a 10,000 watt station.

This would make a huge difference in the regional coverage area for Leatherneck sports. I live in East Peoria and my options last year if I could not make it to a game were to listen to it from my car radio in the driveway (or driving around town) or to listen to it online. The signal was not strong enough to pick up on my home stereo.
My second question is what has become of the Britton and Jones tandom that have done the games for so many years?

I think that WJEQ-FM has been 25,000 watts for a few years. So their signal goes out about 75 miles.
Michael Jones is now the Asssistant Director of Alumni Relations for the University. He started this job a few months ago.
Arlen Britton was working full-time for the Macomb Journal. He was also doing the Illini West High School football games on radio the past few seasons as well as helping out at times with the Macomb High game radio broadcasts.

Arlen Britton is a fulltime WIU employee, too.
What would REALLY be nice is if WJEQ would also broadcast the womens basketball games. Once you get out of the city limits, you are unable to receive the WIU station that currently broadcasts them. I don't care if the students continue to do the broadcasting but put it on a station that will go outside Macomb.

I agree with that 100 % but believe it requires advertising $$ that were not being generated which really surprises me with the support the Westerwinds (oops Leathernecks) have from several prominent business owners in town.

Arlen Britton works at the Physical Plant at WESTERN.
When the women's basketball games were on WJEQ, I can only remember 2 sponsors: Cathy Early State Farm Insurance and Cititzens National Bank. And back in those days, only the Conference games were broadcast.
While WIUS has a weaker signal, it does broadcast all games.
