I guess I would agree that MSU had a lot of potential during those years but they never live up to any of it. This is a top notch program -- wow.
You live in Missouri, you know how Mizzou has been the past three decades. How many years did everyone talk about them finally turning the corner. And they finally kept the other schools out of recruiting in Missouri and look where they are now in the Big 12. Its the same thing with us. No arguing about our record over the time span bc its true. We haven't been very good. But I don't see us ever being a power at the FCS level - too many teams rely on transfers to be successful. I think its hurts the MVC come playoff time bc the majority of our schools don't take on lots of transfers sans WIU.
Like I said before it will be us and Illinois State that will make the push to FBS for the MVC. Mainly to give our programs a leg up on the others, that we haven't competed with to try to up them like UNI and SIU. If we do I expect NDSU to follow us. So I don't really see how trying to better your program is a laughing matter.
Hmmmm. last I rememer the taking on transfers thing was a Randy Ball thing, that if memory serves left WIU a decade ago for Southwest Missouri State.
This Bears Country cat seems to have some chip on his shoulder against WESTERN, I have noticed easily 2 dozen deragatory commments made by this person on AGS. Apparently he is not content with that forum and needs to spread his wisdom on otherboards too. This person is deluded into thinking ISU and MSU are the Ones to follow.

It's Western Illinois who scares me in all this. There are high school fields in the Twin Cities that are as good as WIU's stadium. Also the entire operation WIU runs just screams "two-bit" to me.
Hmmmm, with regards to our stadium, well that is one mans oppinion, but I wonder what it is about WIU that screams "two-bit" to him.

I had an aditional thought with regards to "TheBisonator" quote.
Maybe, his words got lost in translation and mean something different in North Dakota than in Illinois.
The "Two-bit program" that TheBisonator refers to in his post that scares him probably has to do with our 5 MVFC Championships (2nd only to UNI) and our program going to their house and beating them. I can see how that might scare him.
I thought our new member NDSU was going to be the second comming of USC. Gosh, how did the Bison's first full year of D-I football turn out?
Maybe BearsCountry can answer me this.
I was wondering how many MVFC Championships MSU and ISU have? I'm sure it is alot. I bet if we were as succesfull at MSU and ISU the Big Ten would be falling allover itself to invite us into their Conference.
In my estimation MSU and ISU should be sending Indiana State fruit baskets and Fannie May chocolate assortments at Christmas to show their gratitude for ISUblue taking the title of worst program in the conference. A title that would otherwise be designated for these two schools on an every other year rotation.
But, what do I know I'm just some dumb hick from WIU.

The author does have some good points about Hanson Field.
All you need to do is to stand on the hill overlooking the Pit and then look at Hanson Field from that vantage point.
Looking east, you see the new bleachers, bathrooms, concessions, and new entry point on the south. Then loooking west, you see the same old, crumbling grandstand that goes back to 1950 when Hanson Field was built.
But at least there is another place in the Missouri Valley that is even worse: Illinois State. Their place is not as good as Hanson Field is now.
WESTERN plays at ISU this year on November 7th.
Let's Go WESTERN!!

I wouldn't mind what one fan posts much. Every message board has at least a few crazies that don't represent the majority of their fans. You see it on our board with NIJ.
WIU easily has the best program of all the Illinois 1-AA teams. You guys have winning records against EIU, ISU, and SIU and have a winning all-time record. EIU, ISU, and SIU all have losing all-time records.
Illinois State was just picked 8th in the MVC by the league today. ISU has some crazies that think they will move straight to the Big 12 when they move up to 1-A.
SIU obviously has the here-and-now recognition with what NIU's Jerry Kill did with their program but prior to that SIU was seriously considering dropping their football program. SIU still lags behind WIU in facilities and fan support.

I wonder what ISU's timetable is for the jump to the FBS or even if they have one? They have suffered from the same type of problem WIU has! You can't use state money for athletic facilities! Besides that, up until last Monday, what state money? Comparing Hanson to a high school facility is a little bit of a stretch, but I would totally agree, the west side could use a complete make-over! The east side is class all the way and was accomplished with student fees with safety issues in mind! I am not proud of the way Hanson looks but its in a wonderful spot! Calling our football program "2-bit" has got to be a comment made by someone who just has no idea what they are talking about. I mean, South Dakota State and North Dakota State did not eat up the MVC last year and most people kinda expected NDst. to do the most damage and maybe even win the title. I think that both schools found that the level and consistency of the competion was higher than playing in the Great West!

ps. I really think the renovation of the west side is close to being a reality. There are a couple of people out there that could get this thing done and done right!

ISU will never compete for a major bowl if they make the jump. I would much rather work hard to improve in 1AA and win a championship.
Who cares what one person says... these are message boards. It's just a hobby.
No team in the MVFC should make the jump. It is already watered down. Just look at Eastern Michigan, San Jose State, and Troy those schools all offer more fertile grounds to recruit from and a few of them have amazing facilities. They never have a chance to be successful on a major scale.
Go Leathernecks.......

| First of all, I believe there is a minimum seating requirement to be in the FBS and second, ask Western Kentucky how their 'jump' to the big-time has gone??
