Maybe Ashley wants to only play one more year. She probably is a Senior academic wise and even though she has two more years to play she will graduate and move on. Just a guess, since she can't transfer to another D1 program.

I thought Ashley Lord should be listed as a senior and wondered why she was considered a sophomore last year. She played at Missouri State her freshman year then played a few games her sophomore year before transferring to WIU in spring 2007. She had to sit out a year because she transferring from one D-1 school to another D-1. Last season would have been her third year of eligibility making the 2009-10 season her senior year.

Can you be red-shirted during a year that you sit out? Can you try and get another year of eligibility? There are SO many NCAA rules, what novice would be able to figure it out?

On a side note, have heard that Jantine Kraak will not be returning...

Re: Ashley Lord

The WESTERN Athletics website reports that Ashley's freshman season was 2006-2007 at Missouri State.

It lists 2008-2009 as her sophomore season. She was able to start playing after the Fall 2008 semester.

So as far as academics is considered, she will be going into her senior (4th) year of college. But it will only be her 3rd year of eligibility.

Let's Go WESTERN!!

I had said earlier that I would not be shocked if 1 of the Netherlands girl's did not return so no shock if Kraak does not return. Another player who never reached potential due to irregular playing time after her mandated setout period by NCAA. She was best player on the team in exhibition and then the NCAA setout and she came back out of shape and never the same player. Too bad...

What is the deal? I see on the WIU website Coach Crane has added another new player. Did one of the recruits not come or why is this player being announced so late.

It must be part of the "let's start over" campaign!

Here are the particulars from an article dated August 10th!

posted by Jennie Adrian at 8/10/2009

Marina Hartman (Muskego) has accepted a scholarship to play next season from Western Illinois University. Hartman, a member of the Wisconsin Lakers AAU program, averaged 3.1 points per game last season for her Muskego Lady Warriors as they went a perfect 16-0 in conference and an impressive 21-2 overall. “Marina will be an impact player from day one,” Lakers Coach Elles stated. “She is an example for all young ladies who aspire to play college athletics.” He goes on to say, “Nobody worked harder the past 12 months to improve their game than Marina; she has earned this scholarship by hard work and dedication.” The Lakers organization has already circled a date on their calendars next year with this news. Western Illinois (and Hartman) will take on top ranked South Dakota State (and former Laker Jennifer Schuttloffel).

Looks to be little experience on this years team. On the website roster there are 5 returning players, 6 freshmen and 2 juco transfers. O'Brien is the only player with significant experience. Lord and Kodde came in mid-season. Borgertpoepping and Thorman only have a year under their belts. This young team is going to have to come up to speed fast...or it could be a long season.
