How can you compare a game in 1990 to anything in 2008. That is ridiculous!!
Look, we all know what this game is: Arkansas is buying an opening game win--plain and simple. They will pay WESTERN approx $400,000 for this game.
But you have to be careful if you are Arkansas. Last year WESTERN played its "money game" at the University of Illinois. WESTERN played them tough, only losing 21-0 to a team that would go on to represent the Big Ten in the Rose Bowl.
WESTERN will come into this August 30th game as the #15-ranked team in the FCS (1-AA).
WESTERN will also be bringing down the Marching Leathernecks, and the WESTERN Alumni Assoication will be holding a pre-game meal in the tailgating area.
Beware the Purple and Gold!
Go Leathernecks !!
Go Westerwinds !!

HH,
You have every reason to believe that UA will be pretty tough this year. I am aware of the instant impact that Petrino had when he arrived at Lousiville and how the offensive production sky rocketed in his first year. His offensive scheme will bring out the best in Casey D*ck and his brother. I have heard that upon BPs arrival, he has already helped CD improve on his mechanics and was immediately throwing better . Furthermore, the new strength and conditioning coach at UA will really help the players as Veltkamps workouts are insane. It should be an exciting future for Razorback fans.
As for the Missouri Valley Conference(Gateway/Mid Continent) being good, it is. You looked at past records verse FBS opponents. Would you have expected anything different? You just can't compare these two teams. Not with 22 more scholarships, better facilities, more coaches, etc. I might add that an FBS scholly is a FULL-RIDE. That really helps for depth and injuries when you can go nearly 4 deep on both sides of the ball with full scholarship players. This is not so in FCS ball. A majority of the players are on half and quarter scholarhips where a few key injuries could be detrimental to a season. The current MVC teams had 4 FBS wins last year. NDSU over Minnesota, NDSU pounded Central Michigan, UNI over Iowa State and SIU over N. ILL. Not exactly FBS powers you might say and I would agree. But that is simply not suppose to happen, especially when every FCS school is always on the road for these games and have read above. The MVC has players drafted year in year out and many years have had the most players from the FCS on NFL rosters. I believe that a few years back, WIU had the most alumni on NFL rosters. UNI had 2 offensive lineman drafted this year and another was an All-American. You could have matched up that line quite well against 75% of the FBS lines. None of this means anything to WIU having a chance of beating Arkansas because the chances are very slim. You talk about us getting our a$$es kicked and going home with a paycheck. Look, you are talking to fans as I kind of think you are. None of us will lose nor will we see a paycheck, however we will spend what we can in the Fayetville area and at the university. I'm certain that the players could care less about how much money the university gets and in Arkansas' case how much they will save. Heck, the paycheck goes to all WIU athletic programs and most FCS programs operate in the red, anyways. We've been through these games before with Missouri, LSU, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Illinois.
So, as a fan, you should be thinking about what good can come out of it. This is a chance for UA to work on some things before the SEC season starts and touching on what WIU712 has said in reference to losing to Illinois, WIU played them better than some of their FBS opponents. It was 7-0 at half. We also gave Wisconsin a better game than some of their opponents and they went to the Capitol One Bowl that season. They had no plans of having their starting QB with a pre-existing injury still in the game with 7 minutes left. In 2003, the WIU/LSU game was an eye opener for LSU. WIU was down 13-7 with 6 and half minutes left in the 3rd quarter. LSU went on to have a "pretty good" season that year and the game, in my opinion, helped WIU prepare for the atmosphere of Montana's stadium in the playoffs. Some WIU players have said that it was louder in Montana that it was on a Saturday night in Death Valley. Here's an article that is kind of interesting about the LSU/WIU game.
http://louisianastate.scout.com/2/178606.html Maybe the win for Arkansas will be good for them
In regards to this years WIU team, I'm just not sure, yet. The team that lost to LSU was a top FCS team. What we have to hope for is that both teams come out healthy and better teams, in general. WIU has had some of the most injuries when they have played Division II, III and NAIA teams. Whether you think WIU is a cupcake or not, they and Arkansas are still a bunch of kids playing a game that has to be played.
I don't think 101 attempted to talk smack or disrespect Arkansas. I think he was just talking some football and is excited about the upcoming season as you all are. It's easy to be misunderstood when the opposition comes on to a board.
I, nor any other Leatherneck fan has Appy State syndrome. We have our own problems ahead with the Missouri Valley. I am a true college football fan who follows and appreciates the competition at all levels. It's not always the level of competion that makes it fun to watch but simply the competition. I've seen a lot of good FCS playoff games and a lot of bad bowl games. There are good athletes at all levels. Check any NFL roster and you will see this. Remember, most kids sign the letter at age 17. A lot can happen within in a few years. Some players at the FBS level never live up to expectations and some at the FBS level far exceed expectations causing some to wonder why they were never signed by an FBS school.
I have said all of this because I don't really think you understand all that much about college football and appreciate it for what it is.
This quote pretty much confirms my belief of what level you are operating on. I'll be at the game. If you live too far way, I understand why you would be playing with your buddy Dell on an opponents board. Then the next week you can crawl on to another board.
"but don't worry as soon as the game starts ill have my laptop running. and ill be all over this Board lol." HawgHeaven

[quote]HawgHeaven (7/6/2008) exactly. we dont recruit players the media think is great. we recruit who we know are great. let me put some info up for you.
MCfadden originally 3 stars out of High school. NFL/ Best college player ever.. Period..
Felix 3 originally stars out of highschool. NFL / probly the best Pure Running back Ever. quote]
Good job, guy. Not only are you full of useless information, it's also inaccurate as well. The problem with someone standing at your intellectual ability, is the energy it takes for you to understand common sense and your own self ignorance. Do some research? Run DMC was a 5 star recruit from Little Rock, Arkansas.
http://texasprepxtra.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?sport=1&pr_key=26648 See those five yellow stars under his profile? Yeah, there you go. Also, you find 'under the radar' players? McFadden narrowed his list of schools to: Arkansas, Tennessee, and Alabama. Felix Jones you ask? He was a 4 star recruit who had narrowed his selection to Arkansas, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. These are definitely 'under the radar players' that you scraped up out of nowhere.
If anyone classifies as a degenerate football fan who can't do a little research to look somewhat respectable...I nominate you as the Casey D!ck of all time scrubs.
Wait, who was ranked ahead of you as far as best of all time teams? Oh, it's Alabama. The team that lost to Northern Illinois in their house (yeah 80,000+ fans) with the SEC refs doing their best at handing your bottom feeders a win.
By the way, we owned NIU then and we own them now.
Now run along and do your hillbilly assignment of figuring out where that 7th grade education is going to get you.

its 45 minute drive for me but i only go to important games. really don't bring up the gateway. none of your wins, stats, record really mean anything. you play in a conference weaker than C-usa and you cant dominate it?
alot of people forget in 1998 the first year of the BCS. We was undefeated untill the last 2 min of the Arkansas/TN game. where we had the Stumble and Fumble by Clint stoerner. guess who went on to win the first BCS title? TN. and we had NO superstars. NTM Houston Nutt with a one sided Run run run run mentality. the whole fact that in the last 4 years we have the player talent to have been in the national title hunt 4 year in a row shows how much a Coach can hurt a program.
I'm just talking smack on here for fun. because Western Came over to our Boards
to start some trash talking and like he said this is a Very Dull period of time.
most people even Arkansans think we will be 7-4/8-3 team which isn't bad for a coach in his first year Esp in the SEC.
but when you got probly the Greatest Offensive Coach on a team that has high caliber players. you cannot put out the chance of going undefeated.
Bobby's record with Louisville
2003: 9-4-0
2004: 11-1-0
2005: 9-3-0
2006: 12-1-0
I bet you can only Name one player from that team in those years also off the top of your head. Brian Brohm. as only i could lol. he took a team with nobodies and turned them into a great team.
NTM if you look over there stats on the Louisville football page. they only allowed alittle over 100 yards a game rushing and 215 passing. thats pretty low for a team that has a 185 rushing, 290 passing averaging 475 total yards a game to opponents 320 total yards per game.
he basically took a C-usa team and turned them into a Legit power house in the big east. now he will have 3 receivers already better than urrutia who was Louisville's steadiest go to guy. casey i dunno. Before houston nutt ruined him he was one of the Premiere High-school quarterbacks. last year showed spots of brilliance.
I look at it like this.
Win vs WIU
Win vs ULM
Win vs Texas we beat them in 2000 and 2003 lost in 2004 by 2 points.
Win vs Bama (Home team win in recent games)
Loss vs Florida ( we just dont do good vs florida)
Win Vs Auburn Could go eitherway. but i think there hurting more than we are.
Win Vs KY ( Petrino Rocks KY every year he played them) as we did before petrino
Win vs ole Miss (historically we win) and now they have Nutt
Win vs Tulsa ( havent lost to them sense 1976 [16 games])
Win vs USC ( in worse shape than us by far)
Win vs Miss St (9 game win streak)
Win vs LSU ( lost talent and there top player is a 150 lbs track runner)
its Very Realistic we will wind up 10-1 then will play Georgia for the SEC title and lose.
so 10-2 coming into the bowl games. we will be in a January Bowl with that record vs the 2nd Toughest Schedule in the nation.
which that could easily turn into 7-4. but i have faith. and every year the hawgs are considered crappy we break out a 9-10 win season.

No one has heard of Michael Bush? You have proven to be extremely unknowledgeable in the area of college football. Also, your ACT/IQ/SAT scores are higher than mine? LOL...if you've even taken them yet, I feel sorry for you. Go back and check your writing/reading comprehension. Those two areas of testing would place you in JUCO at best.
Southern rednecks are hilarious. It's not fun to toy with someone so inferior. Let me introduce you to some sad statistics: your state ranked 49th in 2007 per capita income nationally. Why? Poor economic development and EDUCATION.
Run along.

I can actually hear you getting dumber by the second.
Quote:
"At Pulaski Oak Grove High School, McFadden became the only player from the state of Arkansas to be named to the Parade All-American team in 2004. The two-time All-State, All-Area and All-South choice was chosen the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette's Offensive Player of the Year as a senior and was also selected to that newspaper's All-Arkansas squad.
McFadden was ranked as the No. 23 prospect in the nation and the top prospect in Arkansas by Rivals.com. The organization also rated him as a five-star prospect and the third-best athlete in the country."
Yep, no media hype here. Just your typical *** recruit who was 'kind of' well known in High School.
When you starred in Dumb & Dumber, did you play Harry or Lloyd?
