At th end of winter sports. The WESTERN women should pick up some points with this springs success.
Commissioner's Cup:
1- Oakland 60
2- South Dakota State 56
T for third- ORU, WESTERN 54.5
5- North Dakota State 52
Men's All Sport
1- Oakland 44
2- ORU 27
3- IUPUI 25
4- WESTERN 20
Women's All Sport
1- South Dakota State 44
T for second- North Dakota State, WESTERN 34.5
4- Oakland 30
After the spring numbers are in, it will be interesting to see who wins each area. When you look at this, it hasen't been that bad of a year for WESTERN within the conference. Offering a large number of sports helps too.

2- WESTERN-- thanks to golf, tennis in particular
3-Southern Utah
4- Oakland
Women's All Sport
1- SDSU
2- NDSU
3- WESTERN
4- ORU
Commissioner's Cup
1-ORU
2-WESTERN
3-SDSU
4- NDSU

The above post is correct for the final standings and conference awards.
Centenary took the Summit League Sportsmanship Award.
All in all, a good year of conference success for WESTERN. This supports WESTERN'S desire to offer a full range of sports, and their ability to achieve success in many areas- men and women.
Now, lets get the top rank in two of the three next year- and I don't mean sportsmanship!!!!

Good overall showing by WIU and congratulations to the teams who made this possible. Question: What is the extra sport that the women have that men don't ? It says 10 women's teams and 9 men's teams made for the overall standings.

That 10th women's sport is a "mystery". I only see 9.
The men have football as a male-only sport. And the women have volleyball as a female-only sport.
The other sports have both men's and women's teams:
Baseball/softball
Basketball
Cross Country
Golf
Soccer
Swimming & Diving
Tennis
Track & Field
One WESTERN. All Leathernecks !!
Go Leathernecks !!

I believe they use INDOOR and OUTDOOR track as seperate sports.

So who was it that thought our athletic department was going to "hell in a handbasket" earlier this spring? Seems like alls well that ends well, especially for the ladies in softball! They really have a good nucleus coming back and should be ready for conference play and on!
Even though I constantly scratch my head with Stan's scheduling, we continue to improve in steps in baseball. Track and field finished strong, along with Tennis and Golf! So not too bad even with the addition of the Dakota State programs who take athletics very seriously.
Even though NDst inclusion in the softball championship would have meant no tourney for WIU, I really think the sooner they are allowed to go to D1 championships the better for the Summit! Does anyone really miss Valpo at this point? I heard someone at the softball regional talking about how Valpo and WIU were really involved in a rivalry for many years!!!
But SDst and NDst have much better athletic departments even though Valpo may be a step ahead of SDst in basketball.
Anyway, this really feels like the slow time for WIU athletics. The football website has pics of the entire team using high school pics for some of the freshmen. The SI staff seems to be really on the ball.
One more thing! I heard at sometime this Winter that Centenary had a very good looking assistant in cowboy boots sitting on the bench. Could this "babe" be our new assistant???

Necksfansince71- I would think your first sentence refers to me- since I did the athletic department review earlier this spring, and many of my posts ask tough questions. I could respond to your dig, but, there's no need to diminish what these teams accomplished this past year.
WESTERN teams deserve the Summit League rankings. Enough said.
