Okay, since you don't appreciate sarcasm, I'll say it without. This is a forum for WIU Athletics - not WIU club sports teams. If you don't understand that, go check out the thousands of other posts on this site and tell me how many relate to club sports.

That plain enough for you?

The sports are Club Sports only because Western doesn't offer them as NCAA sponsored sports. They are still sports that are played at the NCAA level. For quite a while, Women's Soccer was "only" a club sport at Western and finally became as NCAA sponsored sport. When our Club Sports compete, they are still representing Western. Sure, there are few posts about them, but then, few people even know about them. Our Men's Bowling Club Sport Team collected 2 national championships over a 3 year period. And the discussion of the disbanding of Men's Club Hockey was well in keeping with the discussion regarding the disbandment of the Southeastern Community College Men's Basketball team.

Simply said, this is a forum to discuss whatever the membership wants to discuss.

And FYI, Western does not have a Chess Club Sport Team, so that would be why it hasn't been discussed.

Here's the link to the Club Sports offered at Western.

I agree. Nothing wrong with talking about club sports on the site. If nothing else, move it to the lounge, where "anything" can be discussed.

Sounds like a lesson needed to be taught.

Uh, no they are absolutely and most definitely NOT played at the NCAA level. Their sponsoring body is NIRSA. And the NCAA has varsity-level competition for both men's and women's ice hockey and women's bowling. And if you've never seen NCAA Division I hockey, I can promise you that it is at a exponentially higher level than club hockey, which I have seen. Who was the last club hockey person (anywhere) drafted into the NHL? Or to even play minor-league hockey?

Check out Eastern Illinois' women's rugby team, one of only four NCAA rugby programs in the country. They have to compete against club rugby teams to have a schedule while they wait for other NCAA programs to emerge. They haven't lost to one in five years, including beating Illinois 91-7 and Purdue 106-0 this year. There is a BIG difference between NCAA varsity and NIRSA club.

The men's bowling club didn't win national championships - they won national club championships. And when WIU added women's soccer as an NCAA sport, what was their record for their first few transitional years? In fact, they didn't win more than four games in a season until 2005, well after any club players were gone.

Finally, comparing this discussion to the thread on SCC forfeiting the remainder of their season. I agree - that isn't relevant to this board, either....UNLESS we (WIU Men's Basketball) were recruiting players from there or if maybe one of our former coaches was working there. Otherwise, you are correct. Same thing - not relevant to this board.

I agree with Leatherface on one thing. If this IS going to be discussed on this board, move it to the Lounge and get it out of Men's Athletics. Because it is not a part of men's athletics. That is where the SCC thread is, as well.

Western does have a strong connection to Southeastern Community College (Burlington, Iowa).

Fomer SCC Coach Joe O'Brien is from Macomb.

Former Leatherneck BB player and Grad Asst for basketball Geoff Alexnader played his first two years at SCC.

And former Leatherneck's Men's Asst BB Coach Cody Van Fleet was also an asst coach under Joe O'Brien at SCC. Cody is from Dallas City.

Let's Go WESTERN!!

Well tx - I see you're a forum newbie. So if you don't like it here, don't stay.

TBird, I can assure you that I am not a forum newbie. I had a different log-on for many years and opened a new account when I moved to Texas. However, that is actually irrelevant. I am a forum member and therefore have the right to express my views. My view is that club sports don't belong in the same forum as athletic department sports (I'm trying to avoid the use of the term "varsity").

As to WIU's ties to SCC, I have no problem with the ties listed above. That makes the SCC thread more relevant. MUCH more relevant than club sports updates. For all the reasons I've listed above.

Actually, now that you bring that up, I think maybe that you are right. It is time to let leathernecknation.com go.

I will say that it has been fun reading all of your posts and occasionally mixing it up with several of you over disagreeing viewpoints. I had a different perspective than most and there are reasons for that.

Hope the site continues on - there are many smaller D-I schools that don't have such forums.

Will always be a WIU supporter, but just a less active one.....

So long....from tx_neck and mr_wiu!!!

Nobody is going anywhere.

Those that insist upon leaving are contractually obligated to pay me an exit fee of 2 dozen Hot wings and two six packs of craft beer of my choosing.
