And for my comments on it...

- I love that it's all Division 1, no Div. II schools on the schedule
- The "Thanksgiving Weekend" game is finally an away game, so we don't have to worry about having only 1k people in the stands for that game
- Not playing NDSU next year, due to the new MVFC "rotation" schedule...had to do that with the addition of South Dakota

However there's one bit question mark....We have a home game against Hampton University listed for September 8th.
Old Dominion has a game listed at Hampton for the same day.
It does not appear that Hampton has officially released their 2012 schedule yet.

So that's still up in the air. Hopefully if we end up with a cancellation by Hampton we can fill it in with another FCS team. If we act soon enough, there's still a decent # of teams with open dates on 9/08.

Quick followup on the Hampton situation...apparently we've got a contract with them, so if they back out, they're paying a buyout.

The 2012 schedule shows September 29 as being an "open" date.

So if Hampton does back-out, we would have to find an opponent to play on either September 8 or September 29.

Let's Go WESTERN!!

Yup, so there's options. I'm sure the athletics department is keeping a close eye on the situation in case we do need to schedule something quickly.

Hey, Montana has an open date on the 8th....hehe.

I always like beating up on those Pioneer schools so the opener will be nice.

Well, here's what's going on...
http://www.goleathernecks.com//ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=12000&ATCLID=205377711

Hampton is backing out of the game in 2012, but due to some clause in the contract (or maybe just us being nice), we'll play them in 2013 instead.
To replace them, we'll play the Div. II University if Indianapolis Greyhounds. They were 6-4 last year in the GLIAC (7-4 on the season), but will compete next year in the GLVC (for the GLVC's inaugural season of football).

So...question is....is playing 6 home games (with one against a Div. II school) more important than playing an all Div. I (with only 5 home games) schedule? I'm sure at this point there wasn't much flexibility in other school's schedules, but I think I would have preferred the latter. The problem with playing Div. II is that we either demolish them and learn very little about our team, or it's a close game (or we lose) and the team and fans feel pretty demoralized going into conference play

Well, it is what it is...I'll be there either way rooting for a blowout...maybe we can get some of the young guys and 2nd and 3rd string guys more experience.

The problem is the wouldn'tt count towards the unofficial 7 division 1 wins needed for the playoffs.

Hampton backing out is disappointing. If it were me and I am understanding the contract to read they agree to play us on said season on said date then I say "screw 'em". Pay us the money you owe us and buzz off deadbeats.

I guess I kinda feel it is not only a contractual obligation but an integrity issue. This really puts WIU in a bad position. I see no reason to have any further dealings with Hampton.

Is there anybody on this board that is remotely interested in DII matchups? This is not an elitist thing...FBS can play FCS schools and it counts towards Bowl eligibility. FCSs play DII and not only does it not count what so ever towards post season it can be quite damaging to a teams at large chances should they lose to a DII.

No upside.

Sad. Mediocre DII team the week before a BCS matchup? Set the bar a bit higher please. This program seems bent on obscurity.
