Sweeden is still committed to UTM. He was being recruited by one of the coaches that left over summer, and I think that ship sailed when that happened. Idk if it was Almlie, Franklin, Martz, or Mango.

I think there was another coach in there too but i forgot lol

I'm interested to see what FL talent we can bring up. Hope coach ware can come through with that sunshine state speed!

WIU press conference will be held at 3:00 on Wednesday for signing day. Afterwards, I will be sitting down with coach Hendrickson talking about each recruit, that interview will be available on the goleathernecks.com website.

Hopefully the website will be doing the signing day live... with the live updates of the signees as they come in as has been done in years past. That is way more fun than just a press conference/release. I like just keeping the website up and updating at regular intervals thoughout the morning.

How do you monitor the signees on Signing Day on www.goleathernecks.com? Is there a live feed for the updates & interviews?

In years past they have posted a news story a day or so before signing day. They then update the story with a growing list of names, as they come in. Two (or three, can't remember) years ago they dropped the ball and just released a press release around 5PM, which I didn't care for. Signing day is a big deal for college football, because it is the only football related news for several months, and it has become more "popular" in recent years. Due, in large part, because fans can now track committments over the internet, which before was largely a quiet process. It has also become a sort of competition between schools, to see who can get the most number of stars on a given recruiting website. The stars are kind of bogus, just as many "starred" athletes wash up as un-starred athletes, but it makes it fun. Some hyped (read: starred) athletes recently have been Victory Visoky, Patrick Stoudamire, Luke Venegoni and Tyler West. Obviosly, these players have worked out well. But for every one of them we have a Chad Sprayberry and Hassan Amen to go along with it, who were also "starred". Since Western is D1, they really should "make a big deal" out of it.

Wow, that really turned into a rant

I know I'm kind of rehashing stuff most people here already know, but I do it, at least in part, to make a point to any of the people in the WIU athletic department who may read this that signing day coverage is IMPORTANT.

Seems like the information you can get from the recruiting websites such as Rivals is only so-so correct. Jalen Duncan is listed as a viable running back but Western Illinois is not listed as one of his contact schools. Hayden North did not appear on Western's list either until he committed last week. You just never know. Guess we will just have to wait till Wednesday to get the correct/straight dope! Still, so far, so good!
