What's the oil spill in the gulf and Coach Crane have in common ? I don't think we can get rid of either one; anytime soon !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Coach Crane's behavior is the reason that she needs to go. She has not shown any ability to make the necessary changes.

From the crying, I mean complaining by parents on this board, the things Coach Crane say aren't close to the things Coach Wagner.

Coach Crane didn't say go to Weight Watchers. She may have said some crass things but it happens.

Erin would understand what it takes to survive an abusive coach from her days here. She is most likely less vulnerable than if she was a 1st or 2nd assistant coach. Woods also knows abuse and is smart enough to remove herself from it although I don't think she survived the coaching change at Missouri this spring. Not sure where she is coaching, if at all, right now. Why can't our administration act on what is endemic here for the last 5-6 seasons?

It took a lot of courage for OSU to can Wagner. One can only hope that Crane will take note and turn her act around. I'd like to think our Athletics department would look into the issue, but burying their head in the sand seems the more likely results. It would take someone like the Peoria Journal or Quincy Herald Whig to investigate and expose the story as I just don't see the McDonough County Voice taking a stand against Western.

Next year you'll only see 3 from Illinois. Jackie Barton (Freeport), Jackie Rieger (Park Ridge), and Michele Salvatori (Rock Falls).

Although roster for next year still shows LaParis Newsom (Chicago), she is not returning, nor is Anneloes Kodde from the Netherlands.

Perhaps women's basketball is will be playing under a Western Illinois @ Kansas moniker. And for her, Kansas makes sense since many have told me they've seen him out talking about, and perhaps even to, recruits - NCAA no-no by the way.

You do have to wonder though if she has any connections outside of Kansas. Last I checked, except perhaps for those from Kansas, no one thinks they are the recruiting mecca for women's basketball. But think of it this way, with only one of them potentially being a freshman (the one from Sweden), we won't see 3rd year in a row mass exodus of the freshman recruiting class

We are in the state of Illinois and last year we had 5 players from Illinois, out of 13 players on the roster. How does that happen??

Doshia had left Oregon State a couple of years ago and went to Mizzou. With them firing their head coach, Doshia is back on the job market. She's a great assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. As far as I know, Erin Entwistle is staying on at Oregon State and the Director of Women's Basketball Operation, a position she has held for several years and one stop after leaving Western.

The situation at Oregon State sounds like what has been going on at WESTERN. I read in that article where Doshia Woods has left Oregon State.

The situation won't change at WESTERN until the new President comes in next fall 2011 and decides to "clean house" at WESTERN Athletics.

Well, once again I am going to say, "I see your point!" I know someone will be adding up the total number of defections from the WIU program in the next few hours, if in fact someone has not already done so.

Once in a while there are some new ideas expressed on this topic, such as the "Dances with the Stars" comment which was very funny. But I am totally sick and tired of the "French Revolution" cries of "off with their heads!"

My concern at this point is that we get a knew and motivated head track coach! We have a talented high jumper, and a number of men and women were red-shirted this season. But we need someone who will stay and play awhile, just like Leslie needs players that will stay and play awhile!

I don't know who the juco kids are, and the press release that a "person in the know" told me should be out this week obviously wasn't. But I too would be very suspicious that they are players Daddy found in and around Kansas.

Speaking of warm bodies, WWDad, I've said this for a long time. She DOES know where the body is buried and more importantly where the shovel is TVA used to throw the dirt on. As egocentric as he is, seeing how emasculated he acts with this problem just validates the belief she has something on her.

Given the close camaraderie between the men's and women's team, this would seem to support the assertions others have made that it's well past time for Crane to go, and refute the claims of the supporters that it's simply a matter of a weak player mindset.

Ive never commented on this thread before....just sat back and observed, mainly because I have no real knowledge of the subject BUT I really had to laugh yesterday when I was talking with a WIU mens basketball player, who I will NOT name, but who definately is around the situation....and we were talking mainly about the new recruits coming in for the mens team, who by the way have one that has not been announced and sounds very good....but as we talked I mentioned the mass exodus of players on the womens side over the years and his response about made me piss myself...."She's crazy as hell!" Enough said I guess....

I heard last week that they were supposed to make an announcement this week. Well, being Thursday, the week is quickly drawing to a close.

And oddly, while they immediately removed Lunden Roberts and Marina Hartman from the 2010-11 roster, they have left on LaParis Newsom and Annaloes Kodde who have been confirmed at not coming back.

Wow, that leaves 6 returners (at least so far, maybe fewer as time passes), and 1 frosh recruit - the 6-3 kid out of Indiana who signed in the fall.

With 7+ openings to feel most coaches would be excited about how much progress they could make with their team. However, as has been noted, we may be having difficulty getting anything other that a warm body willing to commit to a year of hell.

I'm putting this under basketball to show what a former women's basketball player can accomplish when they get out from under Crane's hammer.

ChrisDell Harris was recruited out of Juco for both basketball and track, but loved basketball so she chose that option since the seasons conflict. One semester was enough and ChrisDell left the team and moved on to track at Western. Talk about accomplishments - Summit League championships, records, etc. An now, having graduated this Spring (which I noticed her similar compatriots on the basketball team did not), has moved on to a contract with the Nike Developmental Team.

Sherman Hall take action. Only in your dreams, and likely, not even then.

Remember, this is the same Sherman hall who stood up and publicly supported Biagini at his ethics hearing. Fortunately the legal circles didn't believe Sherman Hall or Biagini and were fairly outraged that he couldn't see how his behavior was unethical. Gosh, and this was our Ethics Officer.

It is time for Sherman Hall administration to take some action!

Clearly Coach Crane should be immediately terminated.

And Van Alstine and Johnson should be dismissed as well.

I really would not be surprised to see at least one more bail out before the ship sinks.

And one really has to wonder why no signings are being announced since the signing period has been open almost a full month. On the men's side, Coach Mo announces them as he gets them to let us know he is out beating the hardwood and bringing players in. Not hearing anything official from the women's side makes you sort of wonder if Crane really does have any signed, sealed, and delivered recruits beyond the early signee announced 6-3 kid from Indiana.

Truly hate to read than Annoles Kodde will not be returning for her Senior year and wish her well. Very nice young women who represented the program well. I see that leaves us with 6 returning players and 1 incoming Freshman. Looks like walk-on tryouts could be important so have enough players to practice even if she does sign few more players. Is there a limit to how many new scholarship players you can bring in or is it just total # ? I can't remember a class of 6 or 7 new players in 1 season except for last year being about same right ?

Potera-Haskins coaching history certainly doesn't show a lot of staying power. One has to wonder why after 3 years or so, all of these schools are saying no more.
