Giving up 31 runs is a total embarassment. The sad thing is that this is the second time this season that they've given up 30 runs or more. They've also given up 13 or more runs in 17 different games this season. Something that I never thought was even possible.

What is A.D. Van Alstine going to do with this train wreck that we call the Leatherneck Baseball team ??????

It's time for Van Alstine to show some leadership and to get this program turned around.

Here are some quotes from Head Coach Stan Hyman that appeared on the WESTERN Athletic webpage:

“This was embarrassing to all of us,” stated Coach Hyman, “and I will make sure this does not happen again. It’s up to me to make sure that our starting pitching and middle relief don’t give up 20-some runs before I have to turn the game over to a freshman to eat up innings for us.”

“I apologize personally to all of our fans and everyone who supports us,” Coach Hyman continued. “I’m going to do everything I can to ensure that this does not happen again.”

Lost 31-3 yesterday to ORU. Way to finish up with some pride. It's pretty obvious where this sinking ship is headed. Not only was this team bad, they lose 7 seniors who provided most of the offense. Doesn't look very good for next year either.

I know this is a little off topic, out of sheer curiosity does anyone know why we have so many games, seemingly randomly scheduled against Iowa? There was a weekend series where two games were at Iowa then one in Macomb, then a game in the Quad Cities, and then a couple weeks later another game at Iowa. Just wondering.

His quote today was "SDSU sure can hit." SDSU is 14-25, not much better than the Necks.

I guess it's easier to complement the other team than discuss the ridiculous failings of your own pitching staff. Maybe they can shut down mighty Eureka College.

I don't know. looks like Stan should be up for only a 5 year extension instead of 6 or 7 like some other coaches of losing programs just recieved this year.

I have never been a fan of Hyman. From the first time I met him I felt like he was nothing but a self promoter. If you read his profile on the WIU website he's among the greatest coaches ever. His only experience was at small colleges where recruiting is kind of an afterthought. It doesn't mention anything about his playing career, so I suspect he never played in college. He was a writer and press agent.

They always manage to beat a decent BCS opponent each year, but that happens at lots of places. You catch them during the week when they're throwing their 10th beast pitcher and playing some guys who normally don't get much playing time. Sure they have had some years when they win over 30 games, but they also play about 20 more games a year than we did years ago.

This is unacceptable. I haven't pitched since my freshmen year in high school, but I would take the under on my ERA being a 14 for the 'Necks. I could probably drive around for two saturdays, go to a few high school games and get a better pitching staff together. C'mon, this is a joke. That's not D1 talent whatsoever.

Does anyone else think that it is time for a complete overhaul of our baseball program.

Today's game lasted 2 1/2 hours. Crowd was approx 200.

What will Tim Van Alstine do with this ship wreck ?????

Oh well, we play another home game on Tuesday afternoon vs Eureka College. Maybe we will play better then.

Necks give up 16 more today. Team ERA of 10.71 ranks them 286th out of 288 D1 teams. Priceless.

Saturday's first game lasted 3 hours. The 2nd game lasted 2 hours and 20 minutes. So not very long in comparison to all the scoring.

Saturday's crowd was approx 300.

Coach Hyman knows plenty about baseball. That's a pretty silly thing to say, actually. You don't get to be a head coach at the Division I level without knowing how to coach. It just isn't that easy. There are literally hundreds of hundreds of applicants for every D-I head coaching position. There are search committees and professional search consultants that vette these things pretty thoroughly.

College baseball, in general, depends on juco's, especially for pitching, because most freshmen aren't ready to pitch at the D-I level. The young pitchers that are ready for D-I pitching usually get drafted/signed and don't go to college. The bigger programs can redshirt players but underfunded programs like WIU can't afford to eat the scholarships, so they go juco. Most non-major conference programs do the same.

From the times I've spent talking to him, I don't get the impression that he knows all that much baseball.

I also have questioned the fact that he brings players in from all over the place, especially JUCO kids. Maybe he should focus more on finding kids in state. We were pretty successful over the years with a lot of central Illinois and small school kids.

When the roster for this year was finally published I took a good look at each new player and found out that there were 3 pitchers from Highland CC in Kansas signed. I figured they must have had some sort of great year so I went to their website and found out that the team had gone 11-32! To be honest with you this "concerned" me from the get go.

I think last year was a Neck highwater mark as far as talent. I think the Oral Roberts losses prior to the tournament where the Necks blew some nice leads in late innings really took the wind out of their bag for the tournament and thats exactly how they played.

Stan didn't talk too much about this years recruiting class from the get go. Maybe he knew it would be a tough year!

Just got swept at Southern Utah after giving up 13 runs to Bradley and previously swept by Centenary. Gave up 22 runs and 18 runs to SUU. I really am beginning to question Stan Hyman's ability to recruit and coach. He's done a great job with scheduling, fund raising, and the new ball park, but they're not very good. 7-21 with a team ERA of 9.77. When you give up an average of 10 runs a game it's pretty tough to win.
