Yet rain was in the forecast.

Unbelievable!

RE: Why was the Bradley BBall game canceled?

Are there any tiles under the field? If not there should be.

Engineering-wise there are things that can be done to remove water from the playing field. If, however, a field is plotted out on a flood plain and no counter measures are made to off set the water saturation that is inevitable then the people in charge of this playing field arrangement should be considered fools.

Now I know little ol' Western does not have the resources of a pro minor league ball team but, O'brein Field in Peoria can drain massive quantities of water from their field after rain has just soaked it and be ready to play in short order.

<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O'Brien_Field" target=_"blank" class="SmlLinks">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O'Brien_Field

RE: Why was the Bradley BBall game canceled?

Neckfansince71- With all due respect- and, we go back aways on the message board- I don't know if you are correct on this water issue. I'm not talking any smack here.
However, I can't imagine - unless it was a torrential downpour, and the river was out of it's banks- the seepage could be that bad. I know where the fields are, and where the river is.

If that is the case, then countless games have been cancelled because of this problem over the years. If that is the case, surely improvements would have been made by now- to prevent constant flooding and cancelling play. The infields should have been tarped- regardless. It is spring, and I would assume the ground crews keep an eye on weather forecasts- especially before games. Maybe a mistake was made. That happens.

I don't think anyone should be punished- as implied by others. However, a little more attention to detail might be in order. Just a mistake not covering the infields- I can't imagine the outfields being that bad- to prevent play. These things happen.

RE: Why was the Bradley BBall game canceled?

Okay, let me see, how many of you actually walked both fields???? And, has anyone ever thought that maybe Bradley looked at the day as iffffy and just thought the rental in that situation might not be worth it????

I have said this once before and I am going to say it again. If you go directly north, down the street from Al Boyer you hit the LeMoine River. Both fields are in the river's soak zone!!!!!! Which means that the water from the river in wet conditions tends to seep into the surrounding areas making absorbtion a little tougher than normal.

This is a perfect example of why science education is so important to today's youth. Why you ask????? It's so fans like us don't over react when the field is to flippin wet to play on!!! ie. Its not a conspiracy!!!!!!!!!

As Charlie Brown would say, "Ugh!"

Neckfan over and out!!

ps. You think I am crabby don't you!!!!!! Well I am not!!!!

RE: Why was the Bradley BBall game canceled?

Welcome, ladyneck02. Rain was in the forecast for Tuesday, yet the fields were not covered ??????? How is that accpetable.

Someone sure screwed up. And as a result, WESTERN lost home games to one of its major in-state rivals.

Let's hope that immediate corrective action was initiated for the people responsible.

RE: Why was the Bradley BBall game canceled?

Neither one of the fields were tarped and when the morning rain hit, the fields were unplayable. So what's the real reason ???

RE: Why was the Bradley BBall game canceled?

I'm at a loss to explain it 712. Maybe Bradley was afraid to come to Macomb and get beat, if they don't want to come here that's fine but it should be recorded as a forfeit and not a cancelation

RE: Why was the Bradley BBall game canceled?

I was wondering why the game was cancelled.
