NIU was founded in 1995. I believe NIU first opened their doors for casses in 1899.

Very cool about the homecoming tradition at NIU. That has to rank up there as one of the top 20 oldest traditions.

RE: D-1 Baseball rankings

western-101 (4/11/2008)
Northern is a good opponent. WIU and NIU were founded in the same year 1899, shared conference affiliation for 26 years (IIAC, Little 19) WIU and NIU have met 38 times NIU holds a 20-17 edge (one tie) but WIU has won the last three in a row with the most recent contest being a 2002.

NIU was founded in 1895. A fact not known by most is that NIU has the longest standing Homecoming tradition in the state (since 1906) and one of the longest standing in the nation.

RE: D-1 Baseball rankings

Northern is a good opponent. Looking forward to playing you guys in football next year, I will be in DeKalb for sure for that contest.

Definitely, as the game gets closer we'll have to exchange info so we can tailgate and share some beers.[/quote]

You're on NIU. I have always had a favorable opinion of Dekalb and beer. I actually am contemplating getting to a game this year to help with my "football fix". Although I do feel that Western can beat Northern on any given Saturday (must just go back to the IIAC days) I have alot of respect for the NIU program. I absolutley loved watching Wolf, which I hope to see more of come Nov. (Da Bears!).

No NIU ain't BCS, but they do have a pretty nice stadium and I like what i have seen in pictures with the new athletic complex in the (North?) endzone. Interresting factoid NIU and WIU currently both have 7 players each in the NFL.

(Oh, and in case you were wondering.... No, I was not alive durring the IIAC days)

RE: D-1 Baseball rankings

western-101 (4/9/2008)
NIU you certainly are resourceful.
