For the better part of a year and a half that I have visited the site I mostly run across a large contingent of chest beating "Homers".

Thats why I like this Website. Sure we are all biased, but it's OK this our site to talk about our team. Who wants to go to a website to have honest intelligent FCS discussion only to encounter alot of uneducated proclamations of greatness by certain people for their beloved schools.

RE: 2008 AGS pre-season polls WIU getting love

Thanks for the info LeatherCy, I didn't know that stuff about UNI. I guess I just assume that nefarious stuff happens in Cedar Falls, and they will be in the playoffs next year.

RE: 2008 AGS pre-season polls WIU getting love

I understand some feel the AGS poll is biased, and to an extent it is just like any other poll, I am a voter in the AGS poll and have never voted NDSU the #1 team, I have however had them in my top 4, but only because I believe they had a very good team. Just for comparison here is the Lindy's pre-season top 25 poll that came out today, at least the AGS poll has some "informed" FCS fans voting and not someone who just looks at the Final records of the teams from the previous year

Top 25
1. Appalachian State
2. North Dakota State
3. James Madison
4. UMASS
5. Montana
6. Richmond
7. Eastern Washington
8. Right now two of their starting DB's ares suspended pending the results of charges files against them for being involved in a near riot at a Cedar Falls bar. But you can bet Farley will have them back on the team come August. I think they are over rated in this poll as is SIU. I am fine with 13 points. Let us sneak up on people. UNI starts their season at BYU with hopefully a loss right out of the chute.

RE: 2008 AGS pre-season polls WIU getting love

AGS stands for Any Given Saturday. It is, as far as I know, the most popular FCS board. It is located at http://www.anygivensaturday.com/forum. They conduct their own poll, in which voting is open to top posters on the board, by invitation only.

There are a few WIU fans there, I am on there as "WIUFan" (appropriately). Its fun to watch all of the different game threads on Saturdays for the big games in FCS, and see that there are other people just as crazy as us for FCS football. As mentioned, there are large XDSU, UNI and SIU contingencies there. The Big Skam and CAA are well represented too. I really only post during the football season, and even then usually only while WIU is doing well

I sometimes get the "beatdown" for being so pro-WIU on there... so more WIU voices would be really welcome.

RE: 2008 AGS pre-season polls WIU getting love

what does AGS stand for?

american georaphic society
american goat society
american geriatrics society
american ghost society
adventure game studios
american glaucoma society
american grease stick

??????

RE: 2008 AGS pre-season polls WIU getting love

Nice post- St.LouisNecks. Maybe its because of the small fan contingency there, relative to UNI, NDSU and SIU. I know this poll really doesn't mean much, but I think that most people on this board are cautiously very optimistic about next year. I'll try to be as objective as possible and give my thoughts on this poll:

1) App. State is becoming an evil empire, not that they don't deserve the recognition. I expect a suprising early loss and then the status quo.

2) I'm really fine with 1-11. I might switch NDSU and UNI, just based on last season. There is a lot of (either public or private) love for NDSU on AGS, but they are a good team so I guess I can understand. McNeese and EWU probably have the biggest bust potential, IMO.

3) SIU at 12? Did anyone pay attention this offseason? They lost their coach who pretty much made them, their running back and their quarterback. They had a sub par recruiting class (I know that won't count for much this seaon). They are loosing 5 starters total.

4) YSU at 14? They were mediocre last year, and WIU would have beat them if Herb would have played. They lost Zetts at QB, and 18 of their letterwinners from last year. There is NO good reason WIU should not be ranked ahead of them.

5) Georgia Southern cannot not be ranked. I know they are traditionally good, but it wouldn't matter if their whole team got suspended, they would still be ranked somewhere.

6) EIU and EKU drive me crazy. Just because you are the best teams in a horrid conference doesn't mean that you stack up against everyone else. I would pick Missouri State above either of these teams.

7) Cal Poly. Whatever.

8) Everyone just looks at what happened last season and makes a guess on the basis of traditional powers. WIU is returning a very strong group, minus a couple OL. The defense should be better because its returning practially everyone, and it was good last year. The offense should be better with more QB experience, and its Herb's last year. I would put WIU in the 10-15 range.

In short, I think WIU was a couple plays away from the playoffs last year. I think things are going to come together and they are going to get those plays to go their way this year. Which plays? I'm glad you asked

1) The fumbled extra point against SIU.

2) The long pass before halftime which was intercepted and returned for a touchdown before halftime against NDSU.

2008 AGS pre-season polls WIU getting love

Thought maybe you guys would be interested in this, just came out today on AGS!
5 Gateway schools in the top 25 6 getting votes, you guys are knocking on the door!!

Any Given Saturday Poll Top 25

PRE-SEASON 5/26/2008
(First place votes in parenthesis)
1.
