17 days and counting.

I know things are painfully slow this time of year. Hey, At least I got the Olympics to tide me over, which helps.

But I am still very eager.

My prediction is this will be a break out year for Western. I am excited to be in Fayetteville in a few days and will do my rowdiest best to agitate the Hog faithfull (within the perameters of sportsmenship).

Western has, a very ligitamit shot at winning the Missouri Valley this year. I am Stoked!

I'm glad we do these BCS/FBS games.

Arkansas will sell out/allready has sold out their 72,000 seat stadium. I will say the average ticket price at Razorback Stadium is $42.

42 x 72000 = $3,024,000.00

That does not include extra money paid for suites, corporate sponsors, or consesions.

I think Western deserves to get more than a measely 10%.

We received $400,000 for LSU and $350,000 from Nebraska. Figures the Fuskers would be cheap asses! Not sure what the Illini paid last year. Iowa State has given UNI $250,000 to come to Ames but they don't have much expense either. Most D-1AA (or whatever they call it now) AD's and Head Coaches have resigned themselves they have to have one "guarantee" game a year to help the budget. UNI goes to BYU this year. I think they are getting somewhere around $250,000 to $300,000.

They also beat LSU in 3 OT's. How the Chattanooga game played out means nothing. I wouldn't doubt that Arkansas was looking ahead to Auburn and probably just wanted to get it over with healthy. I'm not saying that I think they are going to score 48 on our defense, although very possible. Remember, the offense can be your best defense. Will our offense give them a short field? I'm hoping that the offense will be better but regardless of how good the offense of the FCS team is in these games, they generally have difficulty moving the ball. The defensive lines are so much better that it really makes it difficult to run the ball. I know Herb could have gotten 100 yards against Wisc. with a few more runs but that O-line was one of the best in a long time. I remember watching Montana lose to Iowa 41-7 in 2006. Montana went on to win 12 straight losing the semis to UMass while Iowa went 2-6 in the Big Ten. I think Arkansas' offense will put up more points than last year. Their new offense can cause a game to get ugly and out of hand real quick. I'm not completely sold that our defense will be better than last year's. Bennett was a big part of it and I'm curious to see who will be starting at safety. This game will be tougher than the Wisc. and Illinois games. It will undoubtedly be hot and humid and they will be fast. I hope I'm wrong about my prediction but it doesn't matter if I'm right. Heck, the margin could be even greater. The Leathernecks will be ready.

I would have to go with The"Pit" on this one. I believe WESTERN will play tough, and keep it competitive for most of the game. However, Arkansas is still Arkansas, and the SEC is still the SEC.

I predict WESTERN will come out of the game with confidence- win or lose. IMHO

Anything is possible and I really think that our 'Necks have a chance to get an upset. That being said I would not wager any real money on WIU pulling off the upset.

I fully expect us to score in the double digits and to keep the spread under 20 though. If I were forced to make a prediction today with it being the first game of the season in a perinial SEC powers home stadium against the mighty Hogs and BP I predict the score to be 27-13 Arkansas.

The WESTERN Alumni Association will be having a pre-game Tail-gating lunch.

Are the Leathernecks up? Well yes compared to the last few years.

Is Arkansas down? Relative to their dominant history with who they lost and a coaching change, they will not be considered contenders for the SEC championship. Which bolds better than facing '06 Wisconsin, '05 Toledo, '04 Nebraska (actually I don't remember if they were great, I know we wern't) '03 LSU.

This particular blog is predicting Arkansas to finish last in the SEC West. It would seem the general consensus is that Arkansas is down this year. I would add that the general consensus is that Western is "up" this year. With the combination of the respective state of each program I feel that Western has an opportunity to play a much more competitive game than in some of our previous BCS matchups. Should be interesting.

That's an interesting post PIT, I was wondering how I would respond to it. I can think of a good many people that would be perfectly OK with the Idea of me droping out of the picture for a week or two

Road trip to Arkansas, I'll sleep in my car for a week. (wont have any money left over after paying for the gas).

First hand scouting would be great but I am quite sure I will not be making a trip before August 29th. I was initially planning on flying but it was going to be more trouble than I thought it would be worth. I will get a rental car. Actually with the speed limit 70 in MO and people routinly running 80. I feel I am lookin at about a 7 to 8 hour drive. I refuse to fly out of O'hare so that was creating some logistical challenges.

I was thinking that you need to head to Arkansas and catch some practice. It is open to the public and they are installing a new system. Wait a couple of weeks though because they just started the other day. And don't go to their spring game because they won't show much then. please, let's get the excitment brewing.

If I'm WIU football I am preparing mentally and physically for an SEC season and Arkansas just happens to be our opener. Hey these guys playing BCS football are just 18 to 23 year old guys just like our guys. Just a bunch of guys that want to be top of there game.

I choose Western to be very competitive againt Arkansas, I don't think Arkansas D is going to be so tough. I feel very good about how Western will represent in Fayetteville.

WESTERN has announced that the Marching Leathernecks will be making the trip down to Arkansas to play at the WESTERN vs Arkansas football game on August 30th.

So the Band as well as the WESTERN Alumni Association will be present at that game.

So you will be sitting around the Arkansas fans. I think that this game will easily be a sellout. They will be excited to see the new coach's team play. I wouldn't be surprised if Arkansas fans call WIU's ticket office posing as WIU fans. I heard Nebraska fans were doing that. They will probably give WIU 2,000 and send back about 1000. It's a lot farther than Wisc. and U of I.

I really wish Arkansas had a game scheduled before the WIU game. These games are tough enough and not having any film to watch has got to be hard for the coaching staff to prepare. Same thing happened in 2004 when Callahan began at Nebraska.

My friend is a season ticket holder for the Razorbacks and can specify if there are games where he would like additional tickets, so I have not had to concern myself with ordering tickets myself. I was just curious when folks around here were ordering them

I'm glad you brought up the hotel thing, cause I have not finalized where I will be staying but should do it soon and make reservations.

I wouldn't expect to see those on sale until late July or mid August. I have made hotel reservations, though. It's the SEC, they start rolling into town on Wednesday.
