They gave me an opportunity for success. The fall is also my fondest memories of WESTERN. I still remember the long winter walks across the Q lot my sophomore year. UGH. Met my wife there, and found some good friends to share life with.

RE: Just for fun- where

I am really not too sure that getting advanced degrees from a university allows for the true college experience. Let me restate the obvious, I don't think getting a masters degree from a school at night and during the day on fall Saturdays is a true test. The facilities at NIU are really nice and I can't tell you how many times I have driven by on my way to WWhitewater or WIU and thought, what are we doing driving by a perfectly good school like NIU. But I grew up at Western and I just can't seem to get it out of my blood. I have visited ISU and thought, if WIU could only have a PAC like this. I have looked at other teams football stadiums and shrugged at the site of Hanson. I have visited other schools rec centers and thought, why not Macomb, and then low and behold, WIU has a wonderful Rec center, is a shovel of dirt away from building the PAC and now has half a classy football facility with more to come. I will never get over looking at Thompson and Higgins from the east side stands in the Fall with the tree colors and the smokey haze of leaves burning in the air and the Necks on the field. Do you think maybe it has to do with my wife and I meeting in 1973, and being a part of those huge crowds at Hanson???? Sorry for going on and on!

jc

RE: Just for fun- where

Interesting. Our oldest son -I think I mentioned on an earlier post- went to NORTHERN and loved it. My wife and I were very pleased with his experience there. We have reccommended NORTHERN to people since then. Different strokes for different folks.

I have never been to eastern, but have heard good things about it. Those who went, seem to be very supportive of the school.

Our other son went to CULVER-STOCKTON, he wanted the smaller school atmosphere.

RE: Just for fun- where

Funny, I decided that I wanted to teach Biology and coach basketball early on. My Dad talked to someone at work who's son was attending WIU and majoring in Biology. We also found out that at the time, Western was the only school in the state to have a coaching minor and so the decision was made and I never really applied any place else. Still have my acceptance letter. Went to NIU for my masters and EDS but never really impressed with the place. Have been to EIU many times and feel like I probably would have been very comfortable there.

RE: Just for fun- where

B-Ball Fan-- I believe I remember hearing that Robert Morris had some very good teams "back then". It's a shame that campus was allowed to deteriorate after Robert Morris left. Robert Morris was well known in that time for BB and as a good two year school.

My wife and I went to Truman State- then Northeast Missouri - for grad school.

RE: Just for fun- where

I had a B-Ball Scholarship @ Robert Morris Jr. College when it was still located at Carthage, Il. When they closed I came to WIU. I attended SIU for Grad School and had good times in Carbondale, but glad I went to WIU for under grad.

Just for fun- where

would you have gone if not WESTERN?

I was accepted and originally going to Southern Illinois at Carbondale. Glad I didn't go. Nothing wrong with Southern, but probably "fit in " better at WESTERN. Preffered a smaller campus. A long time ago!
